[App] Customize lightning strike alerts

Any feedback about whether this will be considered?

As we’re getting into the rainy season in Florida, it seems like my phone/watch are constantly alerting me to lightning happening 20-30 miles from my location. Often times when I look on radar, I’m not seeing anything even remotely close. Is there a setting that I’m not aware of that can allow you to dial that in a bit more to maybe see alerts for say, less than 10 miles from my location?

I would like this feature too, it’s great to log lightning 25 miles away but the ability to set thresholds for alerts would be really nice.

During the summer here in Florida my phone blows up constantly with lightning alerts, for storms that are far away and not headed in my direction. Eventually I just stop looking at them.

@rherteux @uva185 if you have votes left, use them in this topic

This problem also exists in southern Arizona. During the summer thunderstorm/monsoon season I’m getting dozens of notifications for lightening in excess of 20 miles. Getting an initial notification would be a heads up that there are thunderstorms in the area. But unless they’re inside of 10 miles, and definitely inside of 5 miles, the constant longer range notifications are of no use. Having an option to limit notifications to 5, 10, 20 or unlimited would be a great benefit.

Well it’s 5 FIVE years later. I just bought a tempest and no upgrade. Good pr work but horrible R&D. Come on and fix it. Or let us run a beta version!

I want a radius. 5 years alter. I should probably return this thing

5 years later no improvement

I like the Jul 2020 app preference suggestions. Instead of, or in addition to, the “frequency” setting, I would like to see a boolean that is true if lightning has been detected within the selected distance, within the selected time interval. This boolean could appear as a “lightning warning” indicator in the app, and be included in the “obs” data in remote API calls.

This would allow the Tempest data to be used in smart home automations to indicate the presence of lightning by e.g. turning on a warning lamp or audible alarm.
