[App] Customize lightning strike alerts

Any feedback about whether this will be considered?

As we’re getting into the rainy season in Florida, it seems like my phone/watch are constantly alerting me to lightning happening 20-30 miles from my location. Often times when I look on radar, I’m not seeing anything even remotely close. Is there a setting that I’m not aware of that can allow you to dial that in a bit more to maybe see alerts for say, less than 10 miles from my location?

I would like this feature too, it’s great to log lightning 25 miles away but the ability to set thresholds for alerts would be really nice.

During the summer here in Florida my phone blows up constantly with lightning alerts, for storms that are far away and not headed in my direction. Eventually I just stop looking at them.

This problem also exists in southern Arizona. During the summer thunderstorm/monsoon season I’m getting dozens of notifications for lightening in excess of 20 miles. Getting an initial notification would be a heads up that there are thunderstorms in the area. But unless they’re inside of 10 miles, and definitely inside of 5 miles, the constant longer range notifications are of no use. Having an option to limit notifications to 5, 10, 20 or unlimited would be a great benefit.

Well it’s 5 FIVE years later. I just bought a tempest and no upgrade. Good pr work but horrible R&D. Come on and fix it. Or let us run a beta version!

I want a radius. 5 years alter. I should probably return this thing

5 years later no improvement

I like the Jul 2020 app preference suggestions. Instead of, or in addition to, the “frequency” setting, I would like to see a boolean that is true if lightning has been detected within the selected distance, within the selected time interval. This boolean could appear as a “lightning warning” indicator in the app, and be included in the “obs” data in remote API calls.

This would allow the Tempest data to be used in smart home automations to indicate the presence of lightning by e.g. turning on a warning lamp or audible alarm.

And in the Pacific northWET mine is reporting the last lightning strike was over two months ago!

Any expectation that this will ever be in the app?

Five years is just ridiculous for a feature request to be addressed. Can we please get this feature as the current state make the feature almost worthless.

I’m new to Tempest but in the just over 24 hours I’ve had it online I’m already sick of the lightning strike notifications.

I assumed I’d be able to change the distance in the settings but I guess not. I’m in Central Florida where we get TONS of lightning strikes. The past 2 days we’ve had zero rain but I’m constantly getting notifications of lighting over 20 miles away.

Why isn’t it possible to just add a distance filter with a slider? Set it to however many miles you want!

I’m enjoying the Tempest so far. I really don’t want to shut off the lightning detector since we get local frequent strikes. But I don’t want to get notifications every 30 minutes if a storm isn’t even nearby, either…

If there is no lightning, there might be some equipment in your house, or near it, that causes this. Some relais cause sparks. You could investigate by tuning an AM radio to some empty channel.

What’s interesting is that in the pacific northWET we get very little lightning. When I ask the Alexa Skill, TEMPEST, the weather I am now getting “The last lightning strike was three months ago and 11 to 14 miles away!” I think that is the longest period of no lightning since I’ve had the unit.
