I want your opinions on a final mount for my sensor.

A quick background. We cut a spot for our place in the woods. Consequently the primary path of the wind is north and south since that’s the direction of the driveway up the hill and a larger opening in the trees to the south. There is a normal swirling of the wind around the place. Ideally a mount would be very high and that’s not going to happen.

I think the best in going to have is mounting on a pipe 6ish feet high on the corner of the porch roof.

A concern i have is the roof is relective. The upside is this porch is south facing so it wouldn’t reflect off the roof and up onto the sensor.

What are your thoughts?

With a one-sensor system you have to decide whether you want to optimize for temperature/humidity (want low in a grassy area) or wind (want high in an unobstructed area).

I can’t tell which side of the photo is the ‘porch’. The Tempest has pretty good range, so a 4x4 stuck someplace you won’t run over it might be worth considering. Uncertain if you’ll have any reception issues with a metal roof depending on whether there’s line of sight to the hub.

The mounting spot would be next to the starlink receiver. I dont think there would be reception issues, the hub is just inside the window.

I seriously thought of pole mounting it but the flat around the house has a 45deg incline up to the flat area and during a wind event it would be pretty turbulent i would think.

I suppose i am looking for wind data predominantly, we take wind they call 85-95 mph gusts. I want to see how bad they really are.

The higher you get, generally the more accurate you get, unless you’re trying to optimize to knowing if the stuff on the ground around the house might blow away. I saw massive differences here in raising my sensor from 8’ to 18’ to get it over a fence and be very clear of obstacles for the prevailing winds here.
