I’m in western Washington. It’s raining and the Tempest is not recording the rainfall. I looked at 6 other Tempests in my local area and none of them are either. Is anyone else experiencing this?

Response from Tempest Support:

“Thanks for reporting this. Our data science team is investigating this issue, it looks like the radar outage affected something in our back end software is used to help suppress false rain events and the rain data isn’t showing up in the app as a result.”

So many reasons in this one to avoid magic-math AI-generated postprocessing…gear should measure what it measures and report it unaltered (if it needs to report it anywhere at all).

Same problem again on Tuesday. We had 2 hours of moderate rain, and Tempest stations say no rain. Support says the haptic sensor will not detect drizzle. A nearby WeatherLink station says .12" fell in that 2 hour period. .12" in 2 hours is not drizzle.

We’re out of town so I didn’t see any issue.

Latest reply from support:

“The problem is that when the rain droplets are too light, they won’t cause vibrations that the sensors can detect. Light rain is approximately 0.03 to 0.04 inches per hour or less.”

0.03 to 0.04 is a fairly large number to ignore, and that number is not mentioned anywhere in the Tempest documentation.
