# Rainfall measurement is flaky

Just installed my new Tempest last week.  
Had a heavy rainfall today and it went up to .5", but then decreased down to .32 over time.  
Anyone else seen this issue before?

This might be due to your NearCast (NC) Rain settings, if ii is turned ON, you might consider turning it OFF!.

New tempest units have to [go through a field calibration](https://help.tempest.earth/hc/en-us/articles/4474015786011-Tempest-Sensor-Calibrations#:~:text=This%20field%20calibration%20will%20occur,events%2C%20the%20better%20it%20becomes.) during it’s first several rain cycles before you can expect accurate results.
