I recently reinstalled my Tempest on a longer PVC pole and found it to be swaying a little in a breeze around 15mph. My question is does this affect any of the measurements? If so I’ll install some guide wires. Just didn’t want to do that as I live in a HOA.

Many posts on this topic. The 'ol 10 foot Lowes metal fence top rail always works for this one…

Guy wires might whistle in the wind and cause false rain…

Try filling the pipe with cement mixed slushy. Perhaps slide in rebar and fill with sand?

I’d suggest just using a metal pole rather than PVC and the problem will go away. I found that conduit hangers on the 4x4 post for the fence were perfect for mounting the pole especially if you use stainless bolts+nuts. Then you don’t even need tools to take the pole down periodically, just pinch the hangers and it’s easy to spin the nut off. Works great.

Ancient links to the products I use are:

I don’t recall which size I bought so you’ll want to be careful there re: size. If you want me to take a photo of my setup IM me and I’ll do it this weekend sometime.

> Here’s the photos - yes they are ‘very’ solid. I used 4 hangers on the low 6’ of the 10’ pole. I made sure to get you both sides of the bag so the UPC code was there. The #2 size is important if you went with the fencing top-rail that a number of people have suggested. [IMG\_20190112\_134234751] [IMG\_20190112\_134246944]

I used the same conduit hangers, though the bigger ones, for the Harbor Freight telescoping flagpole that I have my Davis VP2 on with the anemometer at 19’ elevation or so. One person job to pop that down rarely for cleaning. Rock solid.

I installed mine on a 1" steel pipe, clamped to a cemented in the ground 4x4. I used 3 pipe clamps with about a 30 inch pipe to post overlap. Top of pipe is 13 foot high.

Thanks everyone I’ll probably change to a 1" metal pole.
