This is my 4th PWS - I started with an old Davis, then got a Davis Vue which I passed on to my grandson (he will be going to UF next year, majoring in meteorology) and bought my first Ambient unit, a WS-2000. It lasted just over 2 years before the temperature portion died out. I tried all of the suggested fixes but still no temps. In Florida (as in most places) that is an important element. I am trusting that Tempest will give me more than 2 years!

I have a background in weather. I spent 6 years (70-76) in the US Air Force as a Weather Observer. My primary base was Seymour Johnson AFB, NC (KGSB) but I was TDY all over the world, gratefully. My last assignment was at Terra Haute, IN which was great because I was also finishing college at Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, IL. I LOVED weather and “observing meteorological phenomena and encoding and diseminating data” - I wasn’t as keen about hand plotting maps (it WAS the early 70s and we had no computers to do that!), tearing off station reports from the teletype machines, but the rest of the job was pretty good. And, 50 years later, I still remember the 27 different cloud forms and love checking on the states of the sky.

I am a retired Chief of Fire & Rescue services here in Manatee County, FL and a retired State Trooper (I did 10 years with FHPA - I had to have a way to drive a car fast any time I wanted). I continue to stay busy as a Board member of the Bradenton Kiwanis Club (we turned 100 years old 8/22/22) and chair the Veterans Committee.

My wife is a retired educator of 32 years. We have a daughter who is a RN/paramedic and Trauma Nurse and now a Clinical patient Coordinator at a local hospital. Our son is a former USAF Air Traffic Controller (he was controller of the year in 2009) and is now an Air Traffic Controller Systems Specialist at Oakland Center, CA. Our daughter gave us two grandsons. The eldest is #1 in his class of 746 in high school.

I look forward to following the forum and keeping up with this new PWS.
