I have my two 5ft galvanized steel pipes up. My unit arrives today.
My question is, do you see any reason to fill the poll with sand? Or is that not necessary?
If you get false rain from vibrations then you might fill the pole with sand.
Noticed the pole swaying a little yesterday with some 10-15 mph winds. I did not get any false rain notifications though. I have not filled the pole with sand. Is there a need to fill it to prevent the slight swaying? Or because I do not receive false rain reports, itâs not causing any issues?
Thanks
If it ainât broke, donât fix it
My poles sway or have low frequency oscillations which do not cause false rain. It is the high frequency vibrations, which cause false rain readings, which dry sand in the pole can dampen. The only thing the swaying might do is effect the wind readings somewhat.
my pole does the same. it sways in the wind. It doesnât cause false rain, but it does slightly (?) influence the measured speed of the wind. I think somewhere in the future I will use a 40mm rod instead of the current 30mm one I have.
