On Sunday, I changed my router and am working on setting up a VLAN for my IoT devices. The network name and password have changed.
Because the IoT VLAN is not yet set up, I have not reconnected any IoT devices to the new existing network. This means I have NOT reconfigured the Tempest’s hub to connect to the new network, as it will go on the IoT VLAN.
If I go into the app it shows the Tempest is offline. Despite this, we are continuing to get data from the Tempest.
If you changed your wifi configuration and you did not update the hub to match, you already know the answer if you are seeing any data. It HAS to be bluetooth because it CAN’T be wifi (yet).
I didn’t realize there was a direct connection to our Tempest via Bluetooth…I thought the info went to the hub, to Tempest servers, and back to us via the 'net…
Also, one device is connecting that is further than the normal 33’, (iPad Air 2), and an Amazon Fire 7 that is well within range is not connecting…
The sensor talks via RF to the hub. Your phone can talk to the hub via BT (if I recall correctly). The hub always talks to WF servers via wifi to your LAN then your LAN to Internet.
Your mobile devices can connect to the hub via Bluetooth and get current data. If the mobile device is also connected to the internet, data can be passed to the WF servers. At least that is how it used to work. I haven’t verified that it still works that way, however.
When your device is not reporting data, WeatherFlow provides the data for the main screen, the same as what you get when saving a location using the ‘+’ from the drop-down menu from the station name.
