All of the latest generation Tempest Hubs use USB-C for power input, and even the early ones used some sort of USB power and a cell phone style wall transformer for power. The optional Tempest sensor’s Power Booster Accessory (PBA) will use a wide range of low-voltage AC or DC input power up to something like 24 volts if you also want to add one of those to a remote station. I have one on my remote station that’s 750 miles from where I live…..
nice but I hope that during storm water won’t spray in the Tempest. They are not sold as waterproof ![]()
Hmm, how is this different than any heavy rain in the wind?
Does Tempest have or plan for a version with all of this integrated - solar, battery, unit? Instead of everyone trying to invent their own?
I would imagine salt spray would be different than rain but it must be somewhat water resistant.
Was that the kickstarter price ages ago ? Wow - current price seems to be $819 (?) Tempest/Cellular, $599 for TempestOne, $349 for Tempest before the current 15% off with code HEATWAVE according to their website.
Anybody know what “*Restrictions apply.” for that code means ? What restrictions specifically ?
What’s the difference for a layman consumer between TempestOne and Tempest ? Is it just access to a bigger API and terms for commercial users ?
None of this is clear from their web pages that I can tell….
I might add that the tempest.earth pages are glacially slow bordering on unusable for a default AdGuard protected setup which is going crazy blocking trackers and analytics etc. If I disable AdGuard temporarily that makes it load nice and fast. So there is a lot of marketing BigBrother under the hood of their website. Beware. Ugh.
Tempest is the “personal” home version whereas the TempestOne is the next step up. . .The device is the same but on TempestOne. . .the APP is more for the “professional” / “commercial” community. . .such as a utility company, a school or a concrete / masonry company. I think there are more items available in the TempestOne app than what the “regular” or “personal” app contains.
The TempestOne App contains a higher quality Nearcast technology plus some “souped-up” AI stuff and Real-time Radar with lightning and Satellite imagery with looping capabilities (and probaly lots of other “professional” modeling and dataas well). . .which would explain the much higher cost for something that looks exactly like my ‘ol Tempest devices.
As far as “Restrictions Apply” . . I think that means “Not valid on commercial [TempestOne] or partner products” For example. . .the 15% codeword would not apply to the MyRadar Tempest Weather System because that’s a “partner product” and there is already a 10% off discount if purchased thru “MyRadar” instead of thru Tempest. I purchased a MyRadar Tempest Weather System over a year ago when the price was a little lower than it is now. With MyRadar Tempest Weather System. . .I can go into their app. . .switch on Temperatures in the “layers” portion. . .then use the “gear” cogwheel and switch on Tempest Weather Systems . . .to see a little icon of my station’s temperatrure.
IF the current code was to be entered for anything other than the regular “home version” of Tempest. . .the comeback from their ordering computer would say something like “Not a valid code” or “does not apply”. Since the Field Tester days of 2020. . .I’ve only seen 10% OFF Sitewide one time which was for the Holiday season of 2021. Most ALL of the codes, Summer, JulyFourth, DadsDay etc are geared pretty much for the “home version” of the TWS.
Thanks. I was kinda hoping the *some restrictions apply note in the web page would have the official explanation somewhere ‘in’ that page, or alternately in a link where we could get the official WF words. But it makes sense I guess.
