The Kp factor, or Kp index, is a measure of geomagnetic activity caused by solar phenomena like solar flares and coronal mass ejections. It ranges from 0 (very calm) to 9 (extremely disturbed) and indicates the level of disturbances in Earth’s magnetic field. High Kp values can signal geomagnetic storms, potentially affecting satellite operations, GPS, power grids, and radio communications. It’s frequently monitored for space weather forecasts and aurora visibility predictions.
This measurement affects many aspects of every day life. As a Drone Operator, it can adversely impact Command and Control. The information is easily available from the NAOA site but it would be great to have it all in one place
