sunny if I said today was Tuesday you’ll argue, so I’ll pass. Thank you.
Thank you for confirming that you artificially limit the displaying of temps to -40C.
Like I said, it would be great if you could leave this up to the individual end user by providing for instance a switch/setting in the app that will allow the user to display the temps below -40C, with a disclaimer attached.
I agree. In Alberta too. I have mine hooked up to an solar panel and external battery and it works fine down to these temps along with cheap Geeni weather cameras on the same mast.
Oh and why you’re at it … change the icon to “Snow” rather than wintery mix as its impossible!
Just a thought . . . I think this super low temperature reporting is at the operating edge of the entire unit. Other statements on this thread state the thermometer itself has a lower limit of -40C.
My observation is, the battery has a documented lower limit of -40C.
At that temperature the battery will work but not charge, and that specification is when the battery is fresh, not sitting outside forever, I suspect but both upper and lower limits of the batteries get closer to zero the older they get.
If -40C is experienced for an extended period, or the battery is already borderline there will be an issue.
I think an important fact in this thread is @gary.neilson reports no issues and has an external battery.
Below is an excerpt from ‘Tempest Help Center’
I think that’s enough cold-weather discussion from the Floridian
I suppose your nemesis is dripping with extreme humidity for most of the year!
40 below here is rare. But it would be nice to be able to measure below that temperature.
Battery can be an issue at these temps for sure. I have a solar panel that keeps the 82Wh pack topped up. Even the pack is only rated to 0C so am running everything at extreme temps.
if it tells you it is -45, it could mean that it is -55 or -41. It just isn’t measuring the temperature, if anything you might hope it still reacts to different temperatures below -40 so you might conclude that today it is colder than yesterday, but how much is unknown.
Strange that this “discussion, discrepancy, limitation” occurs at -40C ?!
That is the ONLY point that Fahrenheit and Celsius converge.
Coincidence ? . . ?. . . ?
