My Tempest arrived last week about 2-3 days after I received my shipping notice. Thank you, WeatherFlow!
I finally had time to plan and install a mounting solution today. The mast is 1" chain link fence tubing and rises about 5’ above the highest peak of our rooftop. So far, so good – except that I have anomalous rain/temperature readings from configuring the Tempest indoors this morning prior to mounting it! Any way to eliminate that data?
SaTxWa, you like me need to ask Weatherflow to do a remote recalibration of your solar sensor. You CANNOT get a solar value higher than the solar constant of *1362 W/m^2, as that is the sun’s unit radiation ABOVE the atmosphere. Mine read as high as over 1600 before asking them to look into it. Perhaps this problem is more widespread.
value varies a bit depending on your source, but only in the 1360-1380 range.
On your phone use the app an go to settings at bottom right corner of app , stations, tempest(station Name)Manage devices Select tempest , select advanced ,select delete all data USE CAUTION as this will delete all data acquired on unit since it was setup.
Closely monitored for 7 days and I can confidently say no false readings due to location/children vibrations on the play set. They have been all over it since the weather turned for the better up here in Michigan so that’s a relief to know I wont be moving this.
Recently received my Tempest and installed it after receiving the supplies I needed to complete the installation. I used a cotter pin to secure the vertical pipe in the horizontal pipes. I had not originally figured on the length of the horizontal pipes, but a single 5’ pipe cut in half did the trick for both horizontal pipes. The cotter pin makes it easy to remove the vertical pipe if I need to and locks the pipe in place so the unit is facing the same direction every time. The pipes and accessories are from Formufit and are furniture grade PVC.
Installed on Furniture grade 8’ long, 1” PVC w a 1/2” PVC inside and filled w sand. I plugged bottom w glue and cut piece of plastic and similar on top. The mount is a DirectTV mount that I wrapped the bottom of PVC pipe w PVC tape to help pipe more secure. I drilled through mount and then used a screw to drill through pipe.
Hi, question on the formufit furniture grade pvc - is that much more rigid than reg sched 40 pvc? I am struggling with that now - if I get above 12-13 feet the pole wobbles. I’d like to get to around 20 feet with my mount. Would that work with the materials you used?
Just a standard wood 4x4 and a screw on the top to lock the base in place. It’s about 6’3" off the ground. Nothing really special. Just got it installed and online today!
Thank you @eric. Yeah the humidity readings may be a little off. Although comparing with other sensors in the area it seemed pretty close. But we’ll see how it works out. :).
I installed my Tempest yesterday. Used 1" PVC. I created the bracket to extend 5" from the house and up 3’. Would like some feedback on my installation. All materials were less than $40. My only concern, is it too close to the roof and my be effected by heat coming off the roof shingles.
Hi. My tempest is on backorder but I want to be prepared for the install when it arrives. I’m thinking of mounting it on one of my roof peaks rather than the side of the chimney. I welcome any input on location. I’m thinking to place it on the peak at the back of the house to the right of the chimney half way to the whirlybird fan. For mount, I have seen others use a tripod on the roof peak. I see several options on Amazon. Suggestions welcome as well. Thank you!
