Yes, that is what I meant.
At the moment I write this your Tempest sees the power booster but is not getting any power from it. And while at it I did a remote reboot.
Letās see if it starts to cycle though you have quite some sun, hence the panels will charge the Tempest to the max probably.
Iāll see what happens overnight. Overnight the charge level went up from about 2.68 to 2.78
The PB did not charge the station back to full charge this time. That is good, but I cannot explain the first 24 hours. Until sometime in March I should have adequate solar exposure so the PB will not need to kick in. Once the new leaf growth comes in the PB will get a work out.
Iāve had my booster connected for over a week (taking the battery up to 2.78 volts quite quickly), and itās been on firmware v165 for a couple of days. But the Tempest continues to draw its power from the PBA, depleting my expensive lithium batteries. Iāve now disconnected the battery pack. Weatherflow support are aware of the problem and are investigating.
Iāve had my PBA installed for about 2 weeks. Iām just using the AC adapter. The Tempest voltage went to 2.83 and pretty much stays there. Iām on firmware 165. Looks like itās running off of the PBA exclusively also. My concern is the internal Tempest batteries might not be in great shape if they are needed during a power outage. ID is ST-00031769.
Hopefully WF can see if the Tempest is communicating with the PBA. If not, then I would expect that behavior. Maybe there is a poor contact with the two middle pins?
I finally got my PB installed on my station with the power adapter. Is there somewhere in the app that tells me if itās recognized in the hub?
Interesting to see how long time it takes before the firmware are updated from 156 to the latest
Edit: Itās charging, so that is a good sign!
There is no where in the app to see if the Tempest recognizes the PBA. Hopefully that will be added in the future.
It only took a day or two for a friendās Tempest to get the firmware update after installing the PBA.
PBA installed few days ago.
ID ST-00010782
Still on 156 firmware.
Requesting update to 165
For all power booster users with lower FW. The booster will work perfectly to charge and on power outlet it will keep it at max charge (even after FW update). For those on batteries it will add a cycling pattern and indeed a longer battery life from the booster
@kalju since youāre on power outlet, the FW wonāt bring anything more.
I would suggest that the power booster users depending on batteries only and a lower FW to open a support ticket . This upgrade can only be done by technicians and they do not come on forum that often. This way your request wonāt get lost in a flow of messages.
Hardly any new post, that must be a good sign
Even though the power booster came a a month or two late (or a year), my conclusion so far is that is working as intended. Iām running it on fixed power, and must say that it worries me a little that there is no power cycle or keeping the power at 80%
I am by no means a battery expert, but I have a electrical car that likes to be at 80% and not 100% all the time.
The difference between the Tempest and your EV is that the Tempest uses LTO batteries and your EV does not. LTO batteries are some of the most robust Lithium secondary batteries available. While the voltage of your Tempest is at nearly max voltage (it is at 2.78V right now) the life of the batteries is still likely longer than other parts of the Tempest. If you are that concerned about them you could put batteries in the PBA instead and the Tempest will only charge from them when the voltage drops to 2.42V.
Station ID 29068
I still see occasional instances where it āappearsā the Power Booster is charging the Tempest despite having a high charge. As I write this my Tempest is at 2.78 v, a full charge for my station. It is 11 pm.
It has been at full charge since the 25th, I think? My memory disagrees with that statement. I think I have seen it drop into the 2.6x volts.
Right now I get a good charge on the battery from 9am until 3 pm on sunny days. Once the leaves are in, no more sunny days as far as my Tempest is concerned.
Youāre very lucky then! Mine has dropped down now to 2.42v. Has been on WF-PBA01 (with the suppled 12V Adapter connected) since Monday the 21st. Waiting to see when it will drop down further (to 2.40v) so I can see if the Tempest will ātrickā the Power Booster in āboosteringā it back up. The voltage started to drop on the Monday the 21st after 6 days of solid overcast and has not recovered since then. I suspect that the Battery Charge-Controller on the Printed Circuit Board (WF-BASE02 REVJ) has gone bad. It is a nice device. . for whatever time it has left.
For the moment my power booster has converted to continuous charging (batteries) sometime in the past week. No ideas but to run it by support.
The battery charge controller is definitely bad on mine. . .wonāt charge . . . any way shape or form. . .not with āel Solā and not with the PBA either. . . at all. Currently holding at 2.41v. . .Power Save Mode =1. . .rapid_wind updates are now every 6 seconds. I am in consult with Support. Will most likely be sending it back for analysis. If they can repair it. . .Iāll be happy; itās a very good device except for that one little āglitch.ā Otherwise they will send out a replacement.
Please upgrade my tempest FW to 165 also
Thank you
I filed a ticket. Even though I have been nearly constantly at full charge since the 25th of last month they could not see the Power Booster. I have power cycled the tempest and replaced the batteries in the PB. And I am back to charging full-time.
Any update with pushing the update to my unit ?
