I did put a nice looking Santa’s hat on my avatar, but today I uploaded my original avatar. It seems that the system ignored this. So it might be Christmas forever 
Edit: it turned out my avatar was almost 4000x4000 pixels, not quite a suitable size for an avatar, but I didn’t notice until just now. One would expect at least an error message of some kind.
The smaller one just worked fine.
