Ah okay, just making sure I wasn’t missing something! I’ll try again in a bit.
Tried again today and it seems to be working now!
I have a Pi hooked up to a 21" monitor and my wife seems to think this is “too much”
Great! Glad it is now working, and of course it can never be too much!
Awaiting the post of somebody hooking it up to a 80" HDTV…
Any idea if this display would be ok, or should I stick with the standard 7 inch? thx!

No reason I can see why it wouldn’t work, although don’t take this as any guarantee!
My wife purchased the tempest for me for my birthday. The one thing I was looking for was nowhere to be found in the box… a display. I love what you have done with the PiConsole and have no hesitation in building and configuring one (I have a background in Ai/ML and C/Assembly coding and have built a number of things on Pi including an HA console with tons of custom goodies).
While I would love to embark on this path it looks like the PIs that are available on the market are at silly markups. Does anyone know where to get a PI at anything near retail? Other ideas for displays that are better than the App running on an android tablet? Should I just return this and get an Ambient station? Happy to spend the time, effort and full retail ($200 ish I think) to make a nice display, I just wont pay the current usury prices for a Pi.
Thanks!
Chris
Check out this website: https://rpilocator.com/ it tracks Pi stock at different retailers and let’s you know when they are in stock!
Another option is to look for a Pi kit rather than a bare board. Some retailers are prioritising kits over individual boards
Depends on where you live, but generally ‘no’ in the US. I gave you a number of options in the other thread you asked the same question in.
Same here. I usually use MicroCenter but they have not had stock for a long time. I’m recycling my old Pi 2 and 3 boards from old to new uses in the meantime. If the size isn’t an issue find an old PC motherboard from a machine someone is throwing away and install Debian. You won’t find something as compact and low power as a Pi lurking in an old PC chassis though!
@peter - I know I asked this years ago when this unsearchable thousands of replies thread started, but I would like to ask again. Can we PLEASE split this thread into searchable sub-threads somehow ?
I would very much like to try extend wfpiconsole to (optionally) read its data from the UDP API as well as from MQTT data, but I simply can’t find any meat, so to speak, in all the noise in the 2800+ messages to date. I basically gave up after scrolling back through 1400+ of them.
I’d suggest multiple threads:
- this one for the announcements, how to install it, bug reports stuff
- a new one for how to extend it to do custom things using your ‘user’ hook
@robert.jochim’s questions and @stevecody’s example code for adding background images are a good example of the latter. I found a few other examples 1000+ messages back that also helped, but the blasted WF Forums software is pretty much useless in trying to find something twice.
Perhaps create a new “WeatherFlow PiConsole customization” thread or the like ?
At this point, this app maybe even needs its own forum. It’s that popular and complicated.
anyone using or a future request about having one of the panels displaying like a 3day/week weather outlook kind of like on the tempest has on the website
You beat me to creating a new thread!
I agree that this thread has got out of hand. I often find myself writing answers to questions that have already been answered, but I can’t find the right post in the thread. I’m not keen to manage a separate forum, but I wonder what @eric would think of having a separate ‘wfpiconsole’ sub-forum under the main ‘Developers’ forum? I appreciate this might throw up difficulties deciding which integrations get their own sub-forums, but it would certainly go some way to solving the issues!
@DavidK, does your console work after this update? I don’t know if your issue is the same
Fixed mine, Thanks!!!
It also fixed mine, thanks.
all is well for ‘wfpiconsole’ in Bellevue, NE. As always…thanks @peter
But still experiencing the red " ! " API thing with the console.
Hi @peter, thank you very much, now after installing the new version I also report restored functionality
And it seems that the SAGER frontend is now functional.
It works, thank you very much.
Figured I would chime in and also say that sometime last night, the piconsole crashed/closed. When I tried to restart it, I received the “Index out of range error”. I ran “wfpiconsole stop” and then “wfpiconsole update”. After doing that, the console started up again. Was there some kind of auto-update that caused the issue?
