WeatherFlow PiConsole - Archive

Hi Peter (@peter),

I would like to add my thanks for your efforts and the release of the new version of WF PiConsole. I’m so glad you listened to my cries for a multi weather station setup, that’s great.

However, I can’t run the update, I must be doing something wrong (I haven’t done anything with the Pi for a long time). After running the upgrade with the command “wfpiconsole update” the upgrade starts, after a while an error message appears:

Error: Unable to update local package cache. Please check your internet connection

I uninstalled python3 and removed the wfpiconsole directory and then reinstalled using your github url but the issue still exist. I guess it’s relate to the Pi 4.
Thank you,
Jim

I whould try to clone my sd card so i can run the updates on the new one just to be sure and safe.

Thansks for the great work and support!!!

@gerolde and @padamec, try running this command on the terminal

sudo apt-get update --allow-releaseinfo-change

and then try the update again

thanks Peter for such a quick reply, seems to update now … still updating.

thanks for you tirelessly work on this project , I appreciate, look at this awesome display everyday as it’s on my workdesk

Thanks Peter,
yes, it allowed you to run the WF PiConsole upgrade .

It’s now about 10 minutes into “Updating Kivy Python library…”. I hope it’s okay that it’s taking so long…

Yep, that’s normal. The Pi is not that powerful so it takes a while to fully install this part of the console.

OK Peter, thank you

Shouldn’t I have “dropped” the running WF PiConcole before upgrading?
Or does the installation process do this itself during the upgrade?

update successfully done

Once the update has finished, you can stop the existing console that is running and then start the new version. It shouldn’t matter that you left the old one running

Yes, the upgrade is complete.
I then rebooted the Pi.

WF PiConsole started, but when I pressed the “Menu” button and the program restarted. And every time I try to enter the “Menu” it crash and restart…:frowning:

The Pi is in version 3b and the OS is “Buster”, i.e. v. 10

Yea, lots of people seem to be having this issue and I don’t know why. It never showed up in testing. Can you share the error that you see when the console crashes? You will probably want to start the console manually from the terminal using the wfpiconsole start command

Hi, Peter,

please, how do I configure the other (second) weather station? Somehow directly in the INI file?

I now have an older WeatherFlow with two sensors, and I want to add a new Tempest to it. And in some time I will add another Tempest station.

And one more question, the upgrade to the new version ends up like this, is it ok (I have a faulty SKY sensor) ?

To change the station and devices click on Menu in the bottom right, select the Station tab and then make your selection using the dropdown boxes. When you have selected a new combination, click the button in the bottom right that says Continue

Just wanted to say THANKS, and let you know my update went perfectly. Everything seems to be working as expected.

EDIT: FYI aspect ratio is off, best I had been able to get. I’m NOT using the expected 7" rpi monitor. I’m using a Raspad3. It’s as it was prior to update.

Oh, great👍, I hadn’t realised that the buttons were drop-down…

Would it be possible (in a some future update) to add automatic switching of the displayed weather station at some interval? I’m not sure if this is really possible.

Then it would also be useful to make the name of the weather station visible on the screen somewhere (bottom line?)

Or in that bottom line, manual buttons “Station 1”, “Station 2”… The active one would be highlighted

I’ve verified the selection of my second ‘Station’ (older WF -Sky/Air) it works fine. However switching between the two, is a bit klunky. I was hoping something a easy as the one for the panel toggles - like you have setup for primary/seconday panels. A quick switch as it were…

But it does function as it is designed ;->

I’m seeing similar behavior on a Pi4 after updating - it’s not crashing, and displays the hub firmware version and count of observations over 24 hours, but doesn’t display anything else from the API.

Can you share a photo/screenshot of what you see, and the output that is printed to the terminal?
