Battery pack question.. continuous charge vs scheduled

Wasn’t sure how to topic this one.. ‘I have a battery pack for our weather meter. ‘We don’t get enough sun in the winter months in Oregon given our tree line.

The first year I used it, I swear it.. ran the battery on the weather meter down.. pulled from battery-pack to charge.. then ran again, etc. In the last few years the battery pack seems to keep the power railed high in the weather meter until it runs out.

Was this an intentional change? (i’m not sure one way vs the other is better.. just know I need to swap the batteries once every 5-6 weeks now.)

Thanks!

I noticed the same thing this year. Past years batteries would last the winter now a few weeks seem to drain the pack. I cleaned the solar panels and that didn’t help. I’ve now run a 24V supply to the station, this keeps it running fine.
Another observation was the station needed battery assistance much earlier this year. I suspect in my case, the internal battery is failing.
