What’s your gauge made from? Plastic, metal sheet? or something else
Been trying to guess from looking at the laser printing but cant
It is a plastic two color white on black laminate. The Laser burns away the white top layer exposing the black layer for the letters and lines. There are several color options I have made a few with brass on black that looks pretty good.
Thanks
It looks really good
Based on feedback I got in this post and my wife I decided to make changes to the gauge face. Here is my new working version I worked up over the weekend. It is less cluttered and cleaner looking.
We had a storm on Friday and as it was raining my wife asked how much rain we had. I looked at the gauge and thought how useless the chance of precipitation gauge is when it’s raining. It would be cool if it could somehow switch over and show accumulated precipitation. So I decided to create two gauges out of one. If there is recorded precipitation for the day the bottom gauge will show the accumulated amount. If there is no recorded precipitation for the day the gauge will show the chance of precipitation.
Thoughts?
MUCH easier to read the Forecast Temps with them insert further from the Current Temp.
And…yeah, love the idea for the Rain.
Kudos, Amigo!
it’s a bit unclear if the precipitation inches today is a forecast or a measurement. You don’t want too much text, so in case it is a forecast perhaps use something like “forecast inches rain today”
also, I would make both rain gauges symmetrical. I like the vertical line for the 0" but perhaps the 100% should also be vertical.
It looks the the 0" should move to the right, to be exactly above the center axis of the gauge.
The 100% appears already above the center, but should have a vertical tickmark.
details, i know.
more details… it would be nice if the digits for the low and high temp would line up horizontally so the 100 on the low gauge is at the same height as the 10 for the high temp. Some for the 90 and the 20, the 80 and the 30, etc.
Great feedback guys! I changed the combo gauge by adding a dotted line between the two scales and also changed the wording. I bumped up the font size for the main gauge. I think each version looks a little better.
Thanks @sunny for catching the alignment error between the two small gauges. I can’t believe I didn’t see that.
Now I’m toying with the idea of personalizing the gauge. Maybe put my family name on it and station number. I also think it would be cool to put the Tempest Logo or a picture of the Tempest weather station on the gauge face. I’m sure I would need permission to do that and not sure who to talk to.
Keep the feedback coming. I included a pic of the original version below.
Latest version
Orignal version
but the alignment between the 0" rain and the needle is still off. What I mean is that the tick mark isn’t in the same direction as the needle when it is at 0". Same for the 100% tick mark.
How about if you ‘flip’ the forecast rain gauge, so that they have a common 0 and the inches accumulated or forecast percent increase as the needle moves left or right…
Are you saying I should move the 0" accumulated vale to where the .2" value is? This way both scales would be symmetrical. Been thinking about that.
I really like that. Let me see what it looks like!
Here a view of all the miss-alignment I could find. Hopefully this makes it more clear.
Perhaps also make the name of the webside WallGauge.com a two liner so the G also lines up vertically to the center. (or leave out the .com part all together)
Here is version 4. The multi gauge looks a lot better. So great to have multiple sets of eyes!! Thanks @sunny and @btst.online!!
- Improved alignment between the two small gauges.
- Revamped the multi gauge at the bottom to have a common zero.
- Also tweaked my mark to get the G closer to the center.
- I have also put a dot on the tick for 32F / 0C.
Look at the blue needle in my picture. Don’t you find it a bit odd when it points at 1.5"?
Needles might touch each other when both point to 0.
Did you upload a new Pic I can’t see it yet. The needles can overlap that is okay as the big needle swings over the other three. But I did see another issue in the multi gauge. On more revision coming up.
no, just the blue line in the picture an hour ago.
I was afraid the two small needles would touch each other when both are at zero.
Ahh I see what you’re saying. The multi gauge is going to just have one needle. It will swing to the right or left. It will rest at zero.
