As the tempest does not detect drizzle we need a tipping bucket for this. I miss out on so much rain as we get a lot of drizzle and my weatherflow station wont detect it at all.
One of the reasons I really liked the Tempest was that you didn’t have a rain bucket to deal with. I’d like to see some data on this and see how much is lost. I can see that some probably need this but personally it would have to be quite a bit to make me want to add that and just what all would be involved in making it work.

I’ll take two for both of my Tempest stations. I only need the haptic sensor to alert when rain starts to fall. Tipping buckets for more accurate precip measurements with the ability to manually calibrate them to my CoCoRaHS Stratus gauge.

I do think it needs a tipping bucket - i’m at the point where I’m thinking of retiring my Wf units (and i backed a tempest on its first day) - my Davis recorded 10.2 mm yesterday and local stations broadly agree with steady light rain. WF recorded 0.8mm - its so wildly out that it throws the monthly totals into numbers where i cant really use it for a publicly facing station.
I do love my WF unit but I think i am facing the reality where the sensors are just not up to the job for rainfall on a public station, esp in the UK where there is no raincheck.

The Tempest struggles with heavy rainfall too. This morning, my area had heavy rainfall for 15 minutes. Tempest recorded 0.11 inches. Acurite Atlas recorded 0.38 inches. Big delta between the 2 stations that are within 6 feet of each other.

Another upvote for tipping bucket, I use my other station for my records. Only advantage I see with WF is notification of start raining, UV and lightning.
Tipping bucket for rain accumulation. Haptic for rain starting. And a way in the App to use the bucket for accumulation and turn off the haptic sensor for that.

The tipping bucket can be used for calibrating the haptic sensor, then units between a tipping bucket amount can be displayed with reasonable precision. Also, if it rains then gets really warm where a nearly full bucket evaporates rather than tips the haptic sensor would have recorded it.
