Data Matrix code on the bottom of all Tempest and Hub devices

Ever wonder what the square (with little black and white squares) is for on the bottom of your Tempest (ST) or Hub (HB) device? Well. . .it’s called a “Data Matrix”. . .which. . .when scanned with the camera on your mobile device. . .or using a “QR” app on your device. . .will yield the complete Serial Number of that device. On the bottom of each Tempest and Hub. . .ONLY the LAST 4 digits of the Serial Number are printed (9372).

Example:

Enlarged. . .the Data Matrix looks like this:

Scanning the “Data Matrix” for the device above yields “00029372” or ST-00029372 as the serial number. This is handy if you get a new device. . .but don’t activate it right away by putting it online to Replace an existing device or setting up a new one. The complete Serial Numbers of your Tempest and Hub will show on your app once they become part of the “Tempest Weather System.”

The Data Matrix is sorta like a “QR code”. . .but not quite. A “QR” code has 3 little square boxes contained in the main code: Upper Left / Lower Left / Upper Right. . .but QR codes do NOT have a little square in the Lower Right corner.

Here is an example of a QR code for the Tempest pictured above (00029372):

In my last 4 1/2 years working with the Tempest system. . .I’ve only discovered ONE mismatch! The four digits printed on the bottom label of this Tempest do not match the Data Matrix printed on the label. Scanning the Data Matrix yields 00006041 . . . and 6041 does not equal 9999!
