Hi all – I have installed the weather station on the Universal Mount and all is well, BUT I would like to get it even higher. I am having a VERY hard time finding an straight extension piece to fit into the existing mount to give me a couple more feet of height. Obviously it would have to fit inside the existing mount and be able to screw it using the existing holes. Any ideas? THANKS!
Here’s what I did: I used a 1.25" white PVC with a “coupler”; I wrapped a 6 inch long layer of White tape around the top of the Universal Mount. . .so as to make it “snug” for the coupling part of the PVC. . . then placed Tempest on top of the PVC. I can’t get it up any higher than that because the Tempest is so “top-heavy” the sway from any wind would be magnified without proper side supports. The Tempest on the “extended” Universal Mount is fairly firm. . .but at its present location Neither of the two Tempest devices in the image ever get above 14 or 15 mph winds. (The taller of the two does have a slight “wiggle” when the gusts get up to 15 mph. . .which is as rare as a 3 dollar bill!)
Interesting. What is the diameter of the coupler? Thanks for sharing.
Take your existing mount to a Lowe’s and just find something that fits it. It’s that easy.
Pipe is sold/measured by its INSIDE diameter, because that’s what carries stuff.
Conduit is measured by its OUTSIDE diameter, because that’s what carries the structural load.
The two are usually not compatible, but you can sometimes find a “close enough” fit…
