Import historical rain data into Tempest

The ability to import rain data from other apps or Excell when transitioning to Tempest will enable historical data to be uploaded into Tempest in bulk ensuring data continuity. I have 15 years of rain data which can be exported in .CSV format for import into other apps but unfortunately not Tempest. Currently it is not possible to add historical data to Tempest hence data continuity is lost.

I transitioned to Tempest mid January 2024 and due to the inability to add rain retrospectively, rainfall data for January 2024 and the year 2024 will be incorrect as it excludes rainfall received first two weeks January.

When the Tempest device has to be reset for whatever reason, data captured up to that point will be lost and there is no way to recover the data after reset. If data can be exported prior to reset and imported after reset no data will be lost.

My suggestion is that users have the ability to add historical rain data manually (will resolve my January issue) and import historical rain data in bulk when required (will resolve importing 15 years rain data into Tempest). This is standard functionality in most rain data apps.

if you need to reset the tempest, all the data is still on the server, so it isn’t lost at all.
There is no way to import data, but you can export it to add to your existing excel data. This trick might be interesting for you Excel trick to get data directly from tempest

I would prefer to have my data in the app. I’m currently using Rain Tracker and can import and export data. If I can export data from Tempest I can easily import data into Rain Tracker but that means managing two apps for rain data.

sure thing, but my guess is that importing data in the tempest will never happen.

Unless owners suggest Tempest developers provide a solution. Importing and exporting data seems to be standard functionality in other apps I investigated. Hope they are reading this discussion.

Exactly who are the ‘they’ you are referring to ?

As with just about every other similar question, you can definitely get there with weewx if you want to run your own computer or VM or docker container to run that. There’s a utility to import data in just about any format you can cook up.

Never heard of Rain Tracker and the name is so generic that google isn’t helping me find any references to it at all.

They, read in the context of the message, refers to Tempest developers.

Go to Google Play and type Rain Tracker in search and magically, the app appears, ready for download.

No need for an elaborate and complicated IT solution, not all Tempest users are proficient in technical IT jargon. There are simple solutions, such as what is available in Rain Tracker and other rain data software.

No, read in the context of the message, it didn’t which is why I asked.

I do not use Google mobile devices, so no it would not magically appear anywhere if it’s not findable in google search. So wrong again.

And save the snark. It’s not going to get people to try to help you.
