Admit it. You just like inventing fancy gadgets
I might as well & face it, Iām going to have to buy one!!
Sounds fantastic. Take my money, please. I love what you all are doing and I plan to keep supporting you.
I will be pleased at better measuring of precip, THEN a better forecast. Meanwhile, I still am using Rain Check. Accurate winds I will just leave to my anemometer up at 30 feet. The Sky aināt going that far into the sky.
Am concerned about the new tempest, with everything being in one unit. Will the temp be correct.
How much for the tempest. This is mr eager , aka the pest
Available in Australia?
Be interesting to see how it compares to DarkSky, its by far and away the most accurate forecast for my area.
Many enhancments on the precip front. Stay tuned.
Since we know the temp, the wind, the solar radiation, and the exact thermo-dynamic properties of the physical device ā we can apply a mathematical formula in real-time to very effectively account for the sunās influence.
I am of the opinion that it is impossible with one device to measure adequate temperature and wind speed and direction. Temperature is measured above grasslands at 2m and wind speed and direction at 10m. It is the worldās meteorological standard. Not to mention that we private users usually put the device on the roof of our houses for measuring wind, and the impact of the roof on an even higher temperature is well known to everyone.
But now if you use a very low mass temperature sensor like a thermocouple, mounted on the north side of the pole you could catch rapid variations. Taking the lowest temperature over say a 5 minute period could be quite accurate due to shifting winds in the micro-climate. This could prevent hot waves of heat from roofs effecting the reading.
Everyone, please.keep in mind that this is a low-end consumer product. It is not meant for high-end consumers or those that want weather data on an accurate scale.
I wonder if the Tempest designers would agree with the statement that it isnāt meant for consumers who want weather data āon an accurate scaleā. Not exactly a ringing endorsement.
In actuality, compared to my Davis VP2, itās only rain that I donāt trust in my Sky/Air setup. Temp, pressure, humidity & wind are all on par with my highly esteemed Davis. Even when exposed to sun in its passive radiation shield, compared to my Davisā 24/7 FARS, my error at worst is about 1-2 degrees and generally less than that.
You can get high end accurate temp and humidity data by placing
your Air in a properly designed aspirated shield.
Expected KickStarter campaign launch date is now Tuesday Nov 5th.
So what you are telling us is that the temperature is going to be a derived value from a mathematical calculation and all the values used in this calculation will come in real time from our own device {unlike rain check} and I guess there is no aspiration fan and it is more economical to make just 1 unit ,or too many people do not properly place the air,.Are the precipitation enhancements going to be able to be applied to the sky1.0 or will we have to get a tempest to take advantage of the rainfall measurement enhancements
Also will the cost to owners of sky be the price of tempest minus a hub ?
I guess you will post a link Nov 1st
A lot of darn questions huh
Thanks Fishrman
And yes you know I will have to have one
@fishrman . Most of your assumptions are correct. iPhone 11 -> iPhone 12. Function is similar, physical design is improved, new software applies to everyone. And above all else we appreciate our current customers like you, and will be doing everything we can to provide a cost-minimized option for those who really want a new Tempest device. Ordering a Tempest device āala-carteā for use with your existing HUB (yes, backwards compatible) will likely be via shop.weatherflow.com in the spring once we have stock on the new Tempest. The ala-carte option will not be offered via Kickstarter ā campaign launch expected Nov 5 ā as that would just be confusing to all new customers who do not already have a WF station/HUB. Weāll email all current owners with the special ala-carte offer in the spring; the price will be lower than all the KS Rewards.
Hereās a questionā¦for those of that are keeping our Air and Sky, are there any plans to make an āofficialā radiation shield for the Air? I ask because I keep mine in the shade and it is correct 99% of the time, but Iāve noticed in the winter the overnight lows are a degree or two too warm due to the emission from the trees shading the sensor. Not a huge deal, but with a radiation shield I could put it out in the open with my Sky.
