New Tempest Weather System

I am very interested in having Tempest Weather System support Siri and HomeKit.

@WFmarketing Regarding the full autonomous version: assuming I get this one to Europe, can I plug in my SIM card and use cellular data in my home network? How much data approximately is transferred per day (full streaming)?
Surcharge is different to various countries. Does this only pay for the shipping or for the customs?
Is “remote Hub” integrated with the Tempest or still a standalone device?
Are you going to produce units for US and EU frequencies, similar to Air and Sky?
Thanks.

just reiterate how a simple qa certificate is or can be implemented its not much of an overhead if you actually already do some pre shipment testing and on the right meteobridge nanosd as a tested signed docket and the left a qa certificate or statement for my davis vp2

And with all that QA that Davis asserts (I own their latest version of the VP2 FARS), they still handle the humidity sensor improperly during assembly (despite being told so by the sensor manufacturer), leading to ongoing issues with RH accuracy. Currently mine reads about 10% low with RH readings above 80% and 10% high with low RH readings. This issue has been frequently discussed in some of the weather forums on the net.

I’m mentioning this only because I take these ‘QA assurances’ with a grain of salt. I don’t think it guarantees the consumer what they may think.

The only certificate that is valid is one from an independent testing and calibration facility where the unit is calibrated and sealed by the facility. Few manufacturers have their own certification facility.

The documents from Davis are worthless.

Hi Tim,

Thank you for your response. I would have loved to apply as the winter season would have offered great opportunities for testing the device under the cold and low sunlight (and compare capabilities with my Air & Sky unit). Unfortunately, I can’t apply to the Field Tester program as I live in Whitehorse, Yukon (Canada).

depends which part of the world you reside but i get it bulk of purchasing todays is via online through a box shifter and only valid warranty is the purchase reciept. anyway it was just an idea nothing lost nothing gained . and you can resolve that davis sensor issue like i did and some others have. tip call davis might get a pleasant response… have a good day…ps its not unique to davis but talking to the manufacturer does help Humidity calibration corrections

Thanks. Davis might replace the unit, but the problem is they’re still handling the sensors improperly. So a new unit would probably have an issue in short order. I’m not as motivated now since I actually have more faith in the WF readings than my Davis…except of course for the WF rain totals.

I have the WeatherFlow Air and Sky system. My question is, will be new Tempest system that I can purchase early in 2020 be more accurate than the current Air system as far as the outdoor temperature goes? It seems my Air does read slightly warmer than it should by 2-3 degrees at times. I have it installed on the north side of my house, and esp. notice it when the sun comes on that side of the house, esp. in the summer months (even though it does not get direct sunlight) I read the new Tempest system is 99% accurate and can still be placed in direct sun and be accurate. Therefore, it does sound like the Tempest would be an upgrade in that regard vs the Air? Thanks for clarifying that.

I have read two different answers as to whether the remote Cellular option can communicate over WiFi. Here are two posts on the Kickstarter comments section:

So which is it? This would be handy for my Mobile unit I use on my RV. If it has both cellular and WiFi, it could be set to use WiFi when I’m at home and cellular while on the road for a cheaper cost than my current WiFi access point is costing me.

@dsj Please clarify this issue.

The original WeatherFlow and this one continue to promote SmartThings integration when no true integration exists. IFTTT doesn’t count as something that can be promoted as a “Works with SmartThings” certified device. Is official integration in the works or something?

Yes, official integration is in the works.

@dsj As you see, there are two mutually exclusive statements on the Breath. Will you please comment on this?

The later response is correct: The remote cellular option will be capable of communicating both over WiFi or via cellular. BLE too. It will have of the features of the standard Hub, plus the cellular data link.
