Photos of Tempest Installations :tempest:

Installed my Tempest a few days ago on a ramada in our back yard. Already finding the temp and wind readings to be much closer to reality than my old WX station.

Hi

Where are you located?

nice picture. Make sure the mast can’t rattle against the wood as this might induces false rain events in windy conditions. It’s probably ok, but hard to see from this pic.

depending on how much room between the PVC pole and the wood. . .you might try to carefully wedge a thin piece of foam or styro-foam to act as a cushion.

Right…hundreds of channels and nothing on (TV…57 it used to be), so I took the TV mast down and used it for the Tempest

Okay wind…bring it!!!

The pole is 2" wide 18G 2mtrs

I’ve put the TV aerial on the previously used pole for the Tempest and when I’d finished I took a look and noticed some swaying with ā€˜Dipstick’ (my Weather station’s handle) but it’s been hit with 20MPH gusts today and no false rain so a big improvement.
I don’t know why anybody didn’t make the suggestion of using a clamp around a more substantional pole with it on!!!

Love it… :ok_hand: as I have been told, if you have more than two weather stations in your home you have no idea of the weather… also its a joke so don’t get offended, I have 3 at my joint.

Does anybody think the TV mast towering above is going to affect any readings?

I don’t think it will affect a lot, maybe in heavy wind it’ll create a little turbulence but even that I doubt. Just don’t use the chimney … the heat coming out there with no wind will for sure send the temperature up

Yes I like to be at least 12’ higher than any chimney for sure.
Particularly wood burning stoves. The fumes are corrosive and will ruin the plastic in no time.

The chimney has been decommissioned a long time ago.
Thank’s for your feedback

I’ve now taken the TV aerial back down and it’s still getting false rain as if it’s detecting it before it reaches the vicinity and records the amount

I’m in the center of the 30m radius with the black dot

I can only think of the sound through the louvres causing this as mentioned before somewhere here

It now seems my TV aerial shaking is causing false rain![headphone warning](https://btcloud.bt.com/web/app/share/invite/d8tjFukvxX

Try replacing the metal pole with a wooden rod. I have had very good luck using a vinyl wrapped closet rod. Here in the USA they are available at home improvement stores such as Home Depot and Lowe’s. The resonant frequency of the metal pole is likely the issue. Wood will likely have a lower frequency and not trigger the haptic rain sensor.

Have you a picture of what you use for Ref:
I’ve remounted it again with some rubber between the pole and chimney clamp also lowering it a good few inches…It seems to have improved but I’m still not convinced. Shall give the next few days of changeable weather a close look at how it copes

Here is a picture of a SKY and Tempest right after installing the prototype PBA.

The mounts to the chimney are about 50cm apart, the poles are 8 feet so about 2.4m in length. They wiggle in the wind but rarely, if ever, give false rain for me.

I used the key hole mount on my deck. I know the location is not optimal because of obstructions. However, I live within an HOA, and this is the best I could do. Had to add the power supply because the unit was not getting any sun in the PA winter.

I do not know why, but every way I try the picture rotates.

Try cropping that black band out

Would the HOA allow having an antenna-type tripod in the grassy area of the yard. . .say about 10 ft out from the steps? If HOA wouldn’t ā€œsquawkā€ about that. . .you could get a little extra sunlight and height onto your Tempest.

They would not like it in the yard, and you never know when they are going to mow. The landscape company they get are not too careful. I am ok with it now. The external power source is working great. The charge is up to 2.55. I can deal with the lower wind speeds. Thanks for the suggestions though.

I do not know what was causing that either. It was not in my original picture, but it uploaded that way. Thanks for fixing it.

Here is my installation. $18 Amazon antenna mount plus a 1 inch diameter PVC pipe. The total height above the roof is probably just over 3 feet. I filled the pipe with sand to reduce vibrations and have not had any false rain reports in higher winds since.
