Photos of Tempest Installations :tempest:

Thanks for mentioning Heavens Above.

Sand is good for a few MPH above 20MPH wind gusts I’ve found. It’s good but not THAT good!

You’ve had false readings? My rubber mounts seem to be going ok had 23-24 mph gusts the other day and no false rain

Yeah I think so yesterday had that exact speed you mentioned so I’ll look at getting some rubber like yours. Mine (cut up bits of rubber) was a bodge I must admit.
Or I need to ask @gizmoev to let me raid his closet

Try rotating the hub. It’s antenna is on the right side, left side if viewing the LED.

Drat. That’s how it is currently oriented.

New station in Sofia, Bulgaria. The location is on my roof and it is open on all sides.

Tell me what you think what’s causing my false rain. I’m thinking the same about the bits of tape and the cable for the PwrBstr
No shaking or vibration with the mast now with DRY sand and even added rubber at the clamps (the rubber actually made it worse. @gizmoev Here in the UK, we don’t have big closets and nowhere to buy vinyl-covered poles. Anything above 15MPH wind or so triggers rain, the video was in strong gust about 20MPH

It is sometimes called a dowel. It is just a round wood pole. Without the vinyl it is an easy fit for the pole mount (it is quite tight with the vinyl). They show up on an Amazon.com search so maybe look there.

You’ve posted ‘many’ times about what seems to be a unique problem for your site. Other than you getting some kind of crazy wind shear effect hammering the Tempest, I can only suggest trying adding another chimney strap as high as you can get it, but my opinion is I that something’s damaged internally in your Tempest and the unit needs replacement.

That was always on my mind to fit another clamp, so I’ll give that a try as my last resort 'cause UK doesn’t do closets (no matter what you call a wooden pole)! My many posts will be a warning to others who may think again when erecting it up high. (nothing but a royal PITA)

I got it down to mess again and found my PB had been severed (that’ll explain why the upgrade to the fw didn’t go to plan.

Admittedly I did accidentally scrape it against the wall lifting the heavy sand-laden mast.

Time for repairs to the cable and connector

I put some silicon at the ends to the piece of pipe holding the Tempest and filled with dry sand, then made sure of every clamp holding the masts are wrapped in rubber.

I ain’t got no more room on the chimney to fit another bracket but if my recent messing about doesn’t cure the wind to rain ratio I’m going to have to wedge one up there!

perhaps it isn’t the pole (with or without broom stick) but something that hits the chimney. And vibrations are passed on to the tempest. I think your setup by itself should be sturdy enough. Difficulty is of course finding the source of the vibrations and deal with the source. Trying to dampen the vibrations at the tempest is of course also an option but not as effective.

Thanks for the encouragement @sunny , I can’t figure out where any vibrations would now occur from around the chimney…anyways now with some video turned out nice again of my install until I have to get up there again to refit the severed (repaired) PBA
For those with no time to view the video here’s a snapshot

if you can live a windy day without the antenna, I would remove it and see how that goes.

I think it has to do with the mount only being one strap around the chimney. The pole mounts I use have one pole strap per mount and I have them as far apart as I can get them.

For those who may not know, the near sensor is the first generation SKY sensor with optional solar panel.

I’m thinking it’s stopped charging now too in the sun, since finding the severed cable…
I’ll think about getting another bracket but the install instructions advise against installing above the top 3 courses of bricks!

IIRC, I bought my mounts on Amazon.com. Maybe adding one of the mounts near the top of your chimney is all that is needed. You could probably test the idea with a block of wood wedged between the pole and the chimney and a ratchet strap around the whole thing. If that works you could come up with something more permanent.

With the mount you have, I wouldn’t mount it above the top three rows of bricks either. With something as small as the Tempest, rather than an antenna, a strap mount like I have should be no trouble around the second row below the top.

I’ve ordered a smaller 9inch bracket as opposed to the 14 inch up there and hopefully, that will squeeze in leaving 3 layers of brick above.

First time I got around of taking a photo of the the Tempest, I have had it for a little while now (well actually this a replacement from my original). This is my 2nd temporary spot, most likely I’ll mount it on a poll roughly where it is now.
Location is Wellington, New Zealand
