Being new and receiving my Tempest too late to install on my roof, due to snow, I mounted on my fence near a public pathway. Now I fear someone stealing my tempest, as it is very easy to just pull off vertically off the mounting post I also purchased from Tempest.
If someone robs my Tempest, they can easily install and use. They do not have to make the data public, but just download the app and use locally.
Am I right to be afraid to lose my Tempest due ot theft?

No more rignt nor wrong than any other $300+ US device you put in a place that is easily able to be stolen. Personally I’d stick in your backyard (if fenced) someplace for the winter and not worry about it.
How are they going to use it without the paired Hub that’s in your house?
Since every Tempest device has a unique device ID that’s sent with every packet to the WeatherFlow mothership, the staff at WF-T can find where it is and who registered it even if they paired it to a new Hub and set the data to non-public…

Sorry - forgot about the paired hub in my house. All they could do is take and throw away somewhere.
Thanks for your reply.
