What is the difference between pressure and station pressure?
station pressure is the pressure as measured at your location, but weatherwise that isn’t as useful as the sea level pressure, which is your pressure but corrected for sea level. That makes it possible to compare pressure values independently from your elevation.
Note that when the setup asks for the height of your station you should only input the height above the ground. It automatically adds the distance from the ground to sea level (based on the location given) to calculate sea level pressure. When a meteorologist talks about pressure, he means sea level pressure.
Here’s a good description of the three different pressure measurements as implemented in WeeWX for additional reading:
Excellent and thank you. Much better explanation than I hoped for.
So today
- Pressure 30.097 inHg
- Station Pressure. 29.731 inHg
- Station Pressure. STEADY
So, my Tempest pressure is 29.731 and STEADY. Adjusted for elevation (323.4 feet) and height above the ground, the “Pressure” is the sea level pressure, correct?
yes, it should be sealevel pressure
