Got it! USPS just delivered! It works! (Sky is not sitting where it normally does on the roof. Just here for testing at the moment.)

Should this be charged in the sun before installing?
Also, can it be mounted in any position? North, south, east, west ?
no need to pre charge anything
just mount it? You should re set your sky with the marking north (panel should point south for maximum efficiency) or the other way rond if you’re the other side of the equator if you ordered a specific one
Perfect! Thanks.

Ordered two days ago. Installed it today in less than a minute.
WeatherFlow, you Rock!

they can be ordered. how much help mr eager should get one. Was one of the first non beta people to get the sky
I just ordered a WeatherFlow Smart Weather station for my house, I’ve never had one before. I understand WF is now including the solar panel with the basic order. Since the solar panel takes the place of batteries in the Sky, does this affect the initial set up? I presume the unit needs to be powered when pairing to the Hub which doesn’t seem possible with the solar panel while performing this action indoors.
Thanks for your help.
The built in battery in the Solar Panel Accessory should have enough charge to complete the initial Sky setup.
Welcome to the family! Yes, the solar power accessory is pre-charged so the setup process will work fine. Be sure you have the latest version of the app. There is a step in the setup where you will be instructed to attach the solar power accessory. If it asks you to insert batteries, you may have an older version.
Thanks, dsj! I appreciate the input.
Thanks, SLOman! I appreciate it.
oooohhhhh - I hadn’t noticed THAT before. That’s goodness for sure !
A movie star in the making!
Can this be used on the Air as well?
Not as it is. It would require the panel not be attached to the Air.
Unless you are in the southern hemisphere in which case you will also need to rotate the mount 180 degrees and check the -N- embossed on the Sky (And the solar panel) are facing North. If the nut on the mount is frozen tight and you are trying to figure out which way to rotate it then the nut unscrews away down from the Sky to loosen it.
cheers Ian
The Air needs to be sited in the shade, away from the sun that the Solar Power Accessory needs to charge.
If you follow the WMO siting standards, your Air should be in easy reach to change batteries if they ever need to be swapped. I say if they ever need to be swapped because I have an Air that’s been running for two years and one month, and it still has 3.05 volts left on the original batteries. Also, the ROI point on a solar setup might be 20+ years considering how miserly the Air is with batteries…
Ordered immediately
Just ordered mine I had to do a battery change last week and I just used regular Duracell figured I would buy Lithium Energizers late fall early winter first set of Lithium lasted about 8 months Glad I waited this will be great as I like to have the 3 sec updates on so I see the wind gust Very good Buy with 40% off
Thanks
I didn’t even thought about this 3 second update. Great! Now I can set the Sky also at a 3 second update, without worrying about the batteries.
Mine still at 3.40 Volts… after almost 9 months.
