Tempest measuring freezing rain?

Hello, I was wondering how tempest is recording rain today that is just below freezing, tempest has measured 0.08” so far at 31.5 degrees. My other more reliable gauges have not measured anything due to the freezing number I stated. How is tempest picking up these amounts when I would have thought it shouldn’t due to present temperatures?

It detects the frozen rain hitting the sensor.

Technically, the falling rain isn’t frozen until it hits a surface. I imagine once a certain amount of ice accumulates on the sensor, it could stop detecting the falling rain.

That’s what happened to my Tempest during this past storm. It recorded rain up to .50 and then stopped once it iced over. Even the wind recording stopped because the passages were almost totally blocked with ice. It’s back to normal.
