Hey @peter, You are the man! That did it. Well making the change in main.py

I’ve noticed that it’s locked up a couple of times. Reboot and it starts updating again. I’m running Pi 4. Any suggestions?

Just with that, no way we can help.

Have you checked the error log in terminal ? In the wfpiconsole directory you have wfpiconsole.log. Read that file and look for eventual error dump messages or something useful.

Also when you say locks up, wfpiconsole or the complete pi4?

As @eric said, I need some more information from the logs to help with troubleshooting.

When it has ā€œlocked upā€ does the clock continue to work? Have you checked whether the Pi is still connected to your network? If the Pi has dropped off the network, then the console will look as though it has ā€œlocked upā€.

Thanks for the direction, when it locked up or froze, all of the displays were out of date. And yes the clock was still working as well as the menus it just that the display froze. Next time I will have to SSH to it and see if it responds and look at the log file.

Ok, looks like my wifi interface is locking up for some reason. So I used my razberry boot SD that had Z-way software installed, So I removed z-way and rebooted, I’ll monitor and see if it continues to have wifi freezing.

Glad you’ve managed to make progress tracking down the issue. Fingers crossed your fixes work out.

Hi all,

Hope @peter doesn’t mind me posting this here, but I know the SmartiPi case had been mentioned in the past. If you are not aware, there is a Kickstarter running for their new SmartiPi Pro case. They have less than 24h left and are currently under their goal. I thought I would post here in case anyone is interesting in backing - please understand the risks in doing so, if you do not have experience with Kickstarter or Crowdfunding.

It is very good looking, but I worry a lot about heat with the closed enclosure. I’d certainly never put a pi4 in it (speaking from experience with the pi4 running super-hot vs. the other models).

update - I see they include two 30mm fans, which is great, but personally I’d suggest one Noctua 80mm fan running slowly to keep it quiet. Those tiny ones are gonna sound like jet engines.

I’ve had a RPi3B running in the current case for over almost two years. I don’t see the need to use an over-clocked RPi4 for anything WeatherFlow related.

did you see the kick starter did pass.

I do have a pi4. I’d say its not worth the price for anything over a $35 USD unless you need or saw a problem with performance. (note: I have at least 40 pi 3s and 2 pi 4s)

That’s a lot of pi to consume !

  • 4 - modelB - one outside ds18b20, one til recently time-lapse weather cam, 3 unused
  • 1 - zero - unused
  • 1 - zeroW - unused
  • 2 - pi3 - one pihole + ubiquiti controller, one WF weewx
  • 1 - pi3+ - unused
  • 4 - 4GB pi4 clustered running k3s

The pi get a lot less use since I picked up a i3 NUC and started dockerizing things there…

Haha I fried my nuc. Not sure what I did but it bricked.

I need to find a used nuc again.
