Update - our field finally dried out enough to support a ladder, and it was sunny and above freezing today, so I got out and fixed the bird ring. I’m not at all surprised it slipped down. I put a drop of superglue between the ring and the unit at 4 points and we’ll see if that holds it.
At least as of now, it’s tracking very well against my Acurite 5-n-1.
We’re scheduled for some wind and rain in next few days - we’ll see.
SuperGlue tends to be permanent. My experience with SuperGlue is. . .once applied. . .it’s there for all of eternity! (i.e. it’s more than extremely difficult to separate the two glued items). I have the Bird Deterrent spikes (WF-BDA01) on my WF-SKY01 (the predecessor of Tempest). Never had a problem with the silicone ring pushing down. . .but if it ever did. . .I’d probly use a very very thin strip of double-sided tape to hold it in place.
That is because the sides of the cap on the SKY are vertical whereas on the Tempest they taper in from the top. For holding the BDA, it is an unfortunate change.
The superglue wasn’t all that permanent - same problem! My working theory is that the temperature differentials (100F+ during summer day, as low as 0F on a winter night is causing “just enough” expansion and contraction to loosen the grip and/or enough moisture gets between the ring and the Tempest body and freezes, again causing “just enough” expansion.
Gonna bring the unit indoors, let the temp stabilize and then try a combination of zip tie and superglue.unless someone has some other ideas.
I also reported it to support and am gonna put in a suggestion to redesign with some tabs to hold it in place
