Can I use a new hub with an old Tempest Sensor?

TLDR; I have a 2 year old Tempest Sensor, and a brand new redesigned hub. Will they work?

My Tempest battery died again, so it would sometimes make it the night, but more often than not, it would drop offline. It had already been replaced once under warranty for what I think is the same issue, and now 2 years later, same thing. Support gave me the $150 discount, and I opted to go for the whole package which includes the new hub

I looked at replacing both, but it would be a lot of work with all the stuff I have pulling data from it locally, so I opted to just swap the sensor and connect it to the old hub, as that was super easy

So now I have a brand new sensor connected to the old hub, and I have a “Broken” sensor and a new hub sitting on my desk

Is there any compatibility issues with using these? I am tempted to either buy another Power Boost er and have a second station, or crack it open and replace the battery

Part of me wishes the battery was actually part of something like the Power Booster, and it just sent the solar power down the cable. Then you could leave the station up there and replace the battery as needed

Not sure what you’re asking. You can add a new/old sensor to a new/old hub in any combination you want. Not sure what you mean by ‘pulling from it locally’ but I have to assume you mean UDP. All you’d need to do there is update the ST-nnnnnn id to the sensor you want to pull from.

Re: cracking it open, since you have a new working Tempest it might be worth giving that a try if you’re inclined to try to go with the aftermarket/bigger battery replacement others have succeeded doing…

Thanks guys! Perfect

My idea is to eventually mount this Tempest to my shed in my yard when I get around to building it, which will give me some redundancy

I have 20+ automations that break when the Tempest goes offline, so a second would help greatly (Along with getting around to figuring out some fallback automations!)
