We like to see our outside temperature at a glance when we are in our home. We are using an iPad for our live weather data. It is standing on a desk and visible, but not readable, unless you walk up to it. A simple display of the temperature and the humidity, along with the recent trend (up or down) is all we need to see at a glance. The rest of the data can be viewed on our mobile devices, if we are so inclined.

TRMNL is actually a very versatile e-ink tablet built on an open-source framework. It supports a wide variety of plugins, and you can even create your own if you need something custom.
For weather stations specifically, there’s a Tempest plugin that works seamlessly with a Tempest account—you simply log in with your Tempest credentials, and it integrates automatically.
The default screen refresh interval is every 15 minutes. If you want more frequent updates (down to every 5 minutes), there’s an optional paid subscription.
I personally have the smaller version, but they recently released an XL model as well. You can find all the details on trmnl.com.
As for the battery life, it’s actually quite good. Depending on how often the display refreshes, it typically lasts anywhere from one to two months on a single charge. And even if the battery does run low, it’s not really an issue—a simple USB-C cable solves that instantly if you want to keep it plugged in.
Overall, it’s a great low-maintenance display, especially if you’re looking for something that can continuously show useful information without the distractions of a regular tablet.
