I finally got my station mounted on segments of 1” PVC pipe. I have the pole tethered to my front deck about 8 feet off the ground. The base segment sits over a piece of rebar driven into the ground.
It has such a great view of the yard I wish it had a 360° WiFi camera at the very top. It would cover a lot more than my Ring doorbell. Any work being done in this area?
Bloomsky was selling a weather station with a sky camera. Seeing that they went out of business in 2022, I don’t think that anyone else is going to be rushing to embed a camera (facing either the sky or ground) into a PWS any time soon. That shouldn’t stop you from mounting cameras to your Tempest’s mast to make a 360 degree view, keeping in mind that you will need power wires to run anything with embedded wifi. There are also 4-camera automotive systems in the aftermarket that generate a synthetic 360 degree view, if you want to try and adapt one of those for use on a mast.
Oh, and before someone points out that Bloomsky’s carcass was purchased in 2024 by Nubila and Bloomsky’s servers are back online, Nubila only wanted Bloomsky for their weather data. Nubila’s PWS offering does not include a camera…
Very informed response. Thanks.
Sharing power and wifi circuits in an all-in-one box is what someone like me would find most desirable. You never know what might spark an interest by the product engineers for future upgrades. So, just putting it out there.
