How to stop a 1” diameter PVC pipe from vibrating

I have one Tempest installed on a 10ft PVC pipe (1” diameter) and it has several rebars in it. The pipe is mounted well but the top 25-50% of the pipe vibrates fairly easily. Is there anything I can do to stop it?

I’ve seen several comments from people who have filled the pipe with sand.

One of the drawbacks of using PVC as a mast is that it will vibrate easy. You may want to look at a more rigid PVC pipe - Schedule 80. Another option would be to move up the mast in your picture closer to the top. The nuclear option would be to move to a metal post like a top rail or a electrical metal conduit pipe.

That pole has quite a bend in it already. Go with the fence post from Lowe’s !

You make a good point. I do see a slight bend to the right.

Would sawing the pvc down some help? I know I wouldn’t be able to do it too much or the radiated heat from the roof will be at play.

I doubt shortening the pvc pipe will help. My Tempest is on a 3.5 foot schedule 40 pvc pipe and the top of it will vibrate from strong winds.

What I used was. . .a 1 inch PVC (Sched 40) to mount Tempest. The PVC doesn’t have to be long. . . 12 inches will work great! Then I wrapped the top portion of the PVC (just under the Tempest mount) with a rubber jar-opener and inserted that whole thing down into a galvanized 10 ft metal pole that has a 1.25 inch diameter opening. The PVC (with its wrapping at the top just underneath the bottom-most portion of the Tempest mount) fits Very Snugly down into the metal pole which is firmly anchored and there is no sway, vibrations. or oscillations.

Here’s what it looks like! Can hardly tell that the Tempest is actually mounted to the PVC. Tempest looks like it is just resting on top of the metal pole.
