How well is shipping going?

Made it to the States!

Thatā€™s the same shipment date as mine.

Same date as mine, too! :+1:

Thanks for attempting to help explain @GaryFunk. It is correct to know that no one is being ā€œpenalizedā€ā€¦that just doesnā€™t make any sense to assume. However, it is NOT correct that the AIR and HUB units reside in the USA. AIRs and HUBs are at the factory in Shenzhen and will be packaged with the correct frequency SKY as they roll off the production lines and go through frequency-specific QC/QA.

Hi everyone. For those not familiar with how production manufacturing works ā€¦hereā€™s some insight as it relates to shipping batches.

Production factory lines need to be setup to produce, test, QC, and package a single product at-a-time. International communication regulations dictate certain frequency bands in different regions ā€“ forcing us to produce both 915 mHz and 868 mHz versions of AIR, SKY, and HUB and deliver accordingly around the world. On the production lines, this creates complications as the devices need to go through a litany of frequency-reliant testing not to mention a different parts spec. Therefore we are producing, testing, boxing, and batching all the 915s first as this represents a vast majority of backers. Then we will reset the production and testing lines to produce the 868s devices.

To make things more fun (read: complicated), we offered to ship AIR + HUB to early backers in a separate shipment last year - paid entirely by WeatherFlow. Given the stretched development timelines of creating an entirely new technology at a dramatically lower price point, we felt it was the right thing to do even if it all but killed out profit margins. This offer to split ship, complicated the final shipping as roughly 1300 backers are to receive SKY only ā€“ different packaging, different testing and QC rhythm on the factory lines.

Given the batching explained above, we had a choice to wait until all product types were produced to begin shipping, or begin shipping based on batches as they became available ā€“ knowing full well that some backers would complain about their priority. We chose to ship products as they came off the production lines without further delay for obvious reasons. Here are the batches:

915 SKY only
915 Completes
868 SKY only
868 Completes

[Note: 868 is primarily Europe, while most other regions including US, CA, AU, NZ, + are 915 frequency by regulation.]

As explained previously in this thread, once a batch is produced we then organize shipments by country for air freight and customs then prioritize by Indiegogo order number. As of 28 May, over 1300 AIR+HUB packages were delivered in 2017, all of the 915 SKY only packages and roughly 400 of the 915 Completes have been dropped off at our shipper in Shenzhen for air freight. We are currently awaiting tracking numbers from our shipper for approximately 250 915 SKY only and the 400 915 Completes to send out to backers.

While all this is happening, our factory lines are still churning out products and getting new batches ready to send.

Before anyone flies off the handle with conspiracy theories and prioritization gripes, read this line again: we had a choice to wait until all product types were produced to begin shipping, or begin shipping based on batches as they became available.

We are blessed to have enthusiastic and eager customers (who have waited a really really long time). Happy to answer rational questions with rational answers.

Hi @fishrman See previous reply that goes into more detail regarding production manufacturing and batches. It is NOT true that SKYs need to be shipped to the US, then joined with AIRs/HUBs. All devices are produced and shipped factory direct out of Shenzhen.

With Order # 3004, youā€™re near the very back of the line. Weā€™re rolling out batches as soon as they are fully tested and packaged from the factory.

No, WeatherFlow will not direct sell any weather stations until all pre-order backers have been shippedā€¦that would be lame.

Thank You kkoeing for the direct and forward answer there has been a lot of information dropped into this thread that was not entirely correct and it is great to get a straight answer from the Horses mouth. I was not looking for any kind of early shipment as I knew I was at the back of the line, So that is great information and always good to deal with someone who gives direct answers and Kudos for a great job

Thank You

Hi @bestboy56

Probably best for an entirely new thread. Short answer: At WeatherFlow, weā€™re actually a group of professional meteorologists, data scientists, PhDs in atmospheric modeling, hardware engineers specialized in weather networks, and software engineers. We donā€™t just make plastic stuff.

Once installed at a specific location (ā€œin-situā€), the AIR and SKY devices will go through a range of calibration routines. The routines for the sonic anemometer for example actively evaluate the sine / cosine curves and frequencies to ensure the sensors are capturing the right sonic wavelengths and nothing has been jarred during shipping. If amiss, your SKY will recalibrate and capture corrections in the onboard firmware (the sonics are so sensitive that a change in gap height or angle the size of a human hair can throw things off).

In addition, our backend systems will compare your data to both trusted observational data and forecast values for your exact location. This constitutes a ā€œlearning modeā€ that weā€™ll explain in detail once fully released. In effect, this means your Smart Weather Station is actually smart  and the only the weather station in the world that learns over time and can stay in calibration.

thank you for the detailed explanation. Makes sense. Wish we had started with this info!

Thanks kkoenig, we all are just excited to receive our stations!!

Shouldnā€™t be long now if its in Denver!:+1:

Sorry, didnā€™t read the datešŸ¤“ I bet you have it now?!?

Itā€™s still in transit in Denver. Delivery date is 2 June. I guess itā€™s being delivered by bicycle.

Mine is still in Customs at JFKā€¦ I think.

:joy: hope itā€™s a fast bicycleā€‹:bike:

From what I understand, FedEx picked up the package at Customs and will deliver to the USPS GMF in Denver where it will ā€œslowlyā€ make itā€™s way to the local post office so it can be delivered by the carrier.

This the least expensive way to deliver a package so itā€™s by nature one of the slowest. Unfortunately, delivery costs in U.S. continue to raise.

I get to listen to my wife complain that it costs her too much to ship a single ao dai.

Just to not read 138 messages, all delivered Sky are in the US ? Nothing in Europe 'till now?

Hope she canā€™t read your posts!

I encourage her to read all my posts.
