I was surprised to see the Tempest didn’t come with a pole - what is the best way to “mount” it so it doesn’t blow over all the time?

Sorry - I just was surprised it didn’t have a POLE when I got it - so all I really have is the tempest device itself that I need to sit FLAT somewhere effectively ON THE GROUND. I had no idea I needed to try and find a pole somewhere.
Don’t we need to firmly install it somewhere to prevent it from blowing over all the time?

The package should have a pole mount… it’s up to you to provide the pole itself.

I always knew it wouldn’t come with a pole. There’s a whole lot of ideas on that page that I just sent you. The main bits are that you need a 1’’ (25.4mm) diameter pole and 10 metres high is the best if you want it to capture accurate readings such as wind. You can get this at your local hardware store or online like ebay/Amazon.

There are two mounts. The one that is already on it is a key hole mount that can hook onto nails/screws, ect. The other one is a pole mount. Maybe use the key hole option to hook it on something facing upwards for the meantime.

I am replacing an older system and have a question about siting the unit. I have large trees around my house and am considering attaching the unit to my gust house. I have thought of two options. A soffit installation; I am concerned about the effect of a darker roof on results. Also considering attaching the station to plumbing vents on roof with clamps. See photos. All suggestions appreciated.

@vreihen Since the Tempest Field Test unit expired recently; I had an opening on my weather array. Today, I received the Vantage Vue and WeatherLink Live from Davis Instruments. Oh, and @storm_tracker shares a third of the responsibility of my spending the cash on more weather equipment.

If that is your only rain funnel rain gauge I suspect that it may sometimes be influenced by the framework overhead. I have mounted two seperate funnels in different locations with a reasonably clear sky above and I notice they can be quite different at certain rain angles.

Do you know what the problem is with owning more than three weather stations? Deciding which one is “most” correct! 
FWIW, that fourth arm at the top is crying out for an R.M. Young or Rainwise propeller anemometer to complete the collection with another measurement method…

Hi everyone, just wanted to share a couple pictures. I mounted the station to a fence post, made sure it was level and used pipe clamps screwed into the post. Over height is 14’, i used 1" black gas line pipe (1 - 10’, 1 - 4’) still have another 4’ section, but wanted to see how this configuration would work with wobble and such. So far no wobble and it’s very sturdy. Look forward to being a part of the Weatherflow community.
