Thanks… this was indeed my inspiration. Of course, I ran the masking tape in the wrong direction . My wife and I got married on the beach at Nags Head over 20 years ago and spent our honeymoon tenting along the Outer Banks. We’ve visited every light from Hatteras up to Quoddy Head in Maine, but I’ll never forget Hatteras which I first saw when I was very young traveling with my dad.
Funny - I was going to call you on the wrong direction thing.
Take it down and fix it when you go with red+green for Christmas
Some one might suggest remove the pole and flip it upside down and voila - stripes in the right direction.
you might want to think that over…
I thought I had…oh well…
Had to remount the Tempest at my Panama City Beach, FL location using the WeatherFlow mount because the “J” pole antenna mount was vibrating when winds were gusting around 25mph or more which caused faulty rain readings. Folks that are down there this weekend are dealing with some big time humidity. Check out the dew point down there! I’m using @btst.online weather app to view my station’s data.

You can view hourly reports from the station at Panama City Beach on twitter:
Not sure how to post my pics here. Had no luck with copy and paste.
Just use the upload button.
Excellent idea, looks great!
hopefully the rattling of the antenna in strong winds doesn’t cause false rain detections.
But it looks pretty sturdy to me.
I’ve got one of those HK wind booms myself here in eastern Ohio. How old is yours, what model, and is it still ticking along? Mine seems in flawless working order!
Don in Ohio
Here is mine, FWIW. I live in Newcomerstown, Ohio. The Tempest is mounted near the edge of my roof on the south side of the house. The peak of the house is 19’ and the pole the Tempest is on is 8’. Take a foot off due to it being about a foot lower than the peak of the house, and this makes it ~26’ AGL.
My weather station is at Tempest and I did a brief video of putting the Tempest into operation. It may be found on my Ohio Weather Facebook page. Just go to Redirecting... and scroll down until you find the two videos.
I have plans to get a triangle shaped tower and hope to have it about the height of 25 to 30 feet. I would like to do this by winter, but time is ticking. Thanks for reading!
Cool picture! Mine is on my fence, I have too many trees to put it on my roof.
Yeah, I love my transparent mast. On a fence might be ok, just be aware of the fact that vibrations might cause false rain events and some fences vibrate a lot in high winds. I would say just leave it there and see if it becomes a problem in your case.
