Photos of Tempest Installations :tempest:

pushed your level, you should be able to post a few more now. Thanks for sharing and -55 is perfect … you can go as low as -80

In the night pic of mine a bit earlier in the thread, you can see that Tempest is illuminated. It’s only about 10 ft off the ground so it was eazy-peazy to stick one of those Home Cheapo® solar spotlights on the ground below. It illuminates it from outside our fence and looks really cool at night. Something some of you might want to do, if your installation makes it possible.

Schedule 80 has thicker, hence stronger, walls than Schedule 40 and at this place you can order 20’ sections with connectors, etc: https://pvcpipesupplies.com/pvc-pipe/pvc-schedule-80-pipe/pvc-schedule-80-plain-end-pipe
Good luck to all!

Hi. I’m checking again for any input. Also, is this the right forum to ask the question? Thanks

As far we can see on the picture, what you have in mind seems a sweet spot, not to close to the trees and chimney … But all depends how open the other directions are for wind. Also see to it that the Tempest is high enough from the roof to avoid to much heat radiation.

This is a long topic regarding al kinda setups for the Sky, still useful for ideas on how to set up a Tempest since the mount is the same.

Yes, this is probably the best place to ask questions but sometimes things get missed so bumping your question was a good idea. With so many new Tempest owners coming on board things are a bit busy so once in a while a post is missed. Note that, as @eric mentioned, the SKY from the first generation mounts the same as the Tempest so those posts specific to the SKY are frequently relevant to Tempest. Use of the search function of the forum can be much more useful when you know that.

I mounted mine on my roof using a method that doesn’t require anchoring through the roof and have what I feel is a high-wind system. I used SCH 80 PVC and after getting it set up on the roof I poured it full of cement. Then, on the 2-in. vertical section I inserted a metal rod and filled cement around it. That made for a very heavy and stiff mounting base held in place using only gravity. I then took a piece of 1-in. SCH 80 PVC and put a metal rod inside that and filled it with cement and fastened that to the 2-in. vertical section. I then mounted the instrument to the top of that. The whole thing weighs about 80 pounds and has a minimal cross-sectional area to catch the wind. It’ll probably wobble some as the wind hits triple digits but with all that concrete and steel inside I doubt it’s going anywhere! (It looks like it’s not mounted vertically but that’s just the cell phone camera distortion. I used a level to get it just right)

geez you could mount the Space Shuttle on that thing and have it stable…

the only worry i would have is that is seems to have a few contact points with the roof, which by itself is fine, but they might not all keep good contact with the roof. Doesn’t mean it will fall of the roof but it might introduce vibrations in strong winds, causing false rain alerts. But if you don’t have any false rain during strong winds, then this looks like a great solution.

I haven’t noticed any false rain alerts but today I did notice a large hawk perched on it. I checked the app to see if it showed anything odd but it didn’t.

Howdy from your neighbor in Lutz!

Ugh, he’s back! This is only a recent behavior but I hope it doesn’t become his new go-to spot.

Oh no! Looks like WF needs to get that “Crown-O-Thorns” bird spike out quickly to prevent occurrances like this. . .on all of our WeatherFlow SKY & Tempest items.

Just got mine yesterday afternoon and put it up between heavy rains. I tried to put in the most open part of the property. I’m debating swapping the PVC for steel, it was just easier to cut the PVC and shove it in the car. image

Can I get some more info from you on your mount? I also have a 1" ID satellite mount currently for my Acurite that has been replaced and wanted to put the Tempest on, but it’s much too small.

What did you use to secure the pole and what did you use for that pole? Any movement/vibration issues from that length?

My satellite mount I think is a 2 inch pole.
I have a pole to pole mount (like https://www.amazon.com/Ambient-Weather-EZ-HD-PTP-Heavy-Mounting/dp/B003EAY89M/ref=sr_1_4?dchild=1&keywords=pole+to+pole+antenna+mount&qid=1591544130&sr=8-4)
to reduce to the 1 1/4" x 10’ TV pole.
It will sway some in breezy weather but no false rain.
Vibrations cause false rain not swaying.
My max wind has been 46 mph and works fine.
I’d prefer a gable mount but my gable peak is too high for me to get to.

Finally got time today to install mine. It’s 11ft off the ground. My first time drilling into mortar between the cinder blocks. Took longer than I thought but everything went smooth with setting it up.
