Photos of Tempest Installations :tempest:

Thanks–I hadn’t really thought of that. Based on 1 day, thew temp reading seems accurate, so perhaps the device is high enough off the roof (maybe 4’) for reflected heat to not be an issue, but I will definitely keep an eye on that. When I had the Tempest laying on the roof as I was prepping for the install, the temp it was reading was a good 20F higher.

That’s exactly where I mounted mine today just to get it out there. I ziptied an alum pole that was 1.25" and fit perfectly into the tempest mount. I ultimately want it at the top of my gable end of my roof but I want to make sure I have the best mount bracket and clamp first. I am going to be looking for 1.25" alum pipe and stainless steel clamps but also want to see what others have done on this forum. I have to say this was super easy to setup compared to my 3 year old bloomsky paper weight.

Now it’s in the front yard. I wanted to get away from the heat pump, which was about 15 feet from the initial installation point.

Mounted on same conduit pole that replaces failed LaCrosse weather station. Super easy install. Wish the mount was slightly tighter when I tightened it. But it’s probably not going anywhere.

Welcome to the Weatherflow community waikinw,

If you feel it isn’t to tight you can always use some weatherproof tape. Several of us do it in 2 ways. On the pole before gliding the mount on it to prevent it slipping off under heavy wind and around base and Tempest to prevent unlocking.

Enjoy your weather station :sun_with_face:

Hello collective mind!
I received my tempest yesterday and was thinking of installing it on my kid’s play set. However, I read somewhere that vibrations can interfere with the rain sensor. The play set gets used almost daily, even by the neighborhood kids. I’m guessing the better option is to install on the roof instead.

If on the roof, I was going to put it at the peak of our dining room, which sits one story lower and about 15 feet from the house. Is that a good spot, or would I need to put it up above the second story roof?

Thoughts? Thanks!

Arrived, installed with 4 minerallac straps (2-1/2" pool fence posts to 1" PVC) and online - couldn’t be any easier!

Welcome to the Weatherflow community rwhite2,

that setup won’t move according the picture

It seems to be tracking well with pressure and temp with my Davis Weather Monitor 2 - anxious for a thunderstorm as I have a Boltek lighting detector online too at the very top of this mast. . (Trains always running - signals all restored and operating!)

Installed this morning. Installation about 75 yards from 2 story home. 8 foot pressure treated 4"x4" post buried about 2 1/2 feet deep. Strapped 10 foot EMT conduit to post. I had to wrap the top of the conduit with some electrical tape to make the diameter big enough for the pole mount to grip adequately.

Hub is placed on second story window sill facing the Tempest. Hub shows a RSSI of -46 and Tempest RSSI -77.

Welcome to the Weatherflow community jasonmstephens,

Nice setup. Just curious, what’s that heavy antenna ?? I just hope under strong winds it won’t generate vibrations that will creep up to the Tempest. Time will tell if that causes or not false rain.

Nice open view.

Thanks! Yeah, I had exactly the same thought about vibrations due to the long lever-arm. Time will tell but so far so good (it hasn’t rained here and none has been reported over the first 3 days of operation). If necessary I can take half the upper section of pipe off to lower the Tempest but I’d like to leave it as if if possible since both sides of my house are in contact with adjacent homes which will likely have a pretty big effect on the wind readings.

The antenna is for wireless Gbit internet transponder for a local provider (Monkeybrains). It also acts as a repeater for other customers nearby. So I piggybacked on the existing larger diameter pipe they had already installed and just added 1" galvanized sections to it.

You definitely need to watch this one then - https://www.nbc.com/amazing-stories/video/ghost-train/2907948. (man that was a great series way back when - free to watch all of the episodes)

My tempest set up for the past few days on a temporary mount (video cam tripod) to check the siting. We have lots of trees so I’m looking for a representative location for sunshine and wind. So far, so good. We’re live! – https://tempestwx.com/station/20342/

I like the tripod mount so much I might just secure it with a weight and leave it. Tripods are inexpensive.
