Hi fishrman,
nearly all Hubs are running v98. The following versions up to v102 are only applied to a very few Hubs, to test a solution for wind measurement drops (see Wind reading way low since battery replacement). But this has until now no effects to the rain detection.
No actually my Sky seems to be matching rain fairly close to my atlas and 5-1 and wind seems to be right on the money have it 14 ā up on sealed 1" galvanized pipe 17āup for my atlas anemometer
Now that weāve had a few days of rain Iāve collected a bit of data and my Sky seems to be all over the place, sometimes itās really close, sometimes itās high and sometimes itās low. Given how inconsistent it is compared with other nearby stations, Iām not sure what to think.
Iām pretty sure I donāt have any issues with false rain as it was installed for months with 0 rain reported (except when I spayed the hose on it to see if it would report something).
The above is the daily values reported by each station. The 5n1 is my old station thatās about 20 feet away from the Sky. #1 and #63 are Davis stations down the street from me.
Some days, like 11/23 and 11/28(today) seem to be really close. But on 11/24 the Sky is way low compared to other stations and on 11/22 and 11/27 itās way high. I donāt see how itās going to be possible to ācalibrateā this.
There is probably some rotor effect from my house, but the current site is 100ā clear so Iām not sure how much. Also, itās not set very high yet as I havenāt had a chance to build my mount.
Between 11:45am 28/11/18 and 9:30am 29/11/18 We experienced winds over 40 knots but my Sky wind sensor got wet and recorded false winds (and different direction) over 100 knots. During that period my two plastic funnel gauges recorded 36.5mm and 32mm. With those winds it is difficult to get accurate rain readings in the funnels due to rain bouncing off house roofs etc. But Sky (even with its inaccurate wind readings) was between the two with a reading of 35.4mm!
As expected with freezing rain, the results from my rain gauges is all over the map. My Rainwise #1 and #2 gauges, which are usually in lock step, reported .03" and .08" respectively. My hypothesis here is that the gauge higher off the frozen ground was less affected by the local 31* temperature. My Cocorahs gauge, once thawed out seems to support that notion with a report of .07". The Weatherflow Sky, 30ā up on the roof reported .12". Higher than the rest but perhaps an improvement from when it wouldnāt detect rain this light at all.
