Swaying in the breeze

I recently reinstalled my Tempest on a longer PVC pole and found it to be swaying a little in a breeze around 15mph. My question is does this affect any of the measurements? If so I’ll install some guide wires. Just didn’t want to do that as I live in a HOA.

Many posts on this topic. The 'ol 10 foot Lowes metal fence top rail always works for this one…

Try filling the pipe with cement mixed slushy. Perhaps slide in rebar and fill with sand?

I’d suggest just using a metal pole rather than PVC and the problem will go away. I found that conduit hangers on the 4x4 post for the fence were perfect for mounting the pole especially if you use stainless bolts+nuts. Then you don’t even need tools to take the pole down periodically, just pinch the hangers and it’s easy to spin the nut off. Works great.

Ancient links to the products I use are:

I used the same conduit hangers, though the bigger ones, for the Harbor Freight telescoping flagpole that I have my Davis VP2 on with the anemometer at 19’ elevation or so. One person job to pop that down rarely for cleaning. Rock solid.

I installed mine on a 1" steel pipe, clamped to a cemented in the ground 4x4. I used 3 pipe clamps with about a 30 inch pipe to post overlap. Top of pipe is 13 foot high.

Thanks everyone I’ll probably change to a 1" metal pole.
