Now I don’t have to look outside any more to see if it’s raining. The there are more drops and it moves faster as the intensity increases outside. I’ve also got it interrupting the rain display every time a lighting strike hits and it briefly displays how far away it is with scrolling text.
I built this little rain display using an LED display with WLED running on an ESP32 development board. I 3d printed the case. I still need to get a better diffuser for it, right now it’s just a sheet of printer paper.
I’m running it through an integration with Home Assistant, but you could just as well do it without with a fairly straight forward program making direct API calls to the WLED instance.
