Weather Station Data v5 suddenly not working on Roku?

Have had this Roku integration app working for over a year…suddenly it can’t find any station? Tried complete uninstall/reinstall…no difference…confirmed I’m sharing public access to my station. Tried other stations and got same results. Same behavior on either Stick or Roku Ultra.

There might be a server side issue. I’ve seen several posts about API data issues.

Yep, I’d bet pretty highly on it since even the iOS app is showing incorrect data. The Weather tab data is pretty inaccurate. Going to the raw data on the station will show the difference.

Any change? The API issues that I and others were facing have been resolved.

No change that I’ve seen. Again, tried other public stations and no difference. This behavior started about a week ago. When I tried to launch the app in the Roku it would immediately “crash” and go back to the home screen. I am assuming this was because it couldn’t suddenly find my station number. Since it wouldn’t launch I had to uninstall/reinstall to get to the configuration screen and that’s when I found that it wasn’t finding any stations anymore. No recent updates/changes. Roku version is 14.1.

I have the same issue in Florida. The App crashed on both of my Roku devices. I reinstalled the app and now my public location number is not available on the app. Hopefully the app developer will solve the problem.

Hey all, I am the author of the ROKU app.
I also noticed it stop working a few days ago :slightly_frowning_face:

Initial troubleshooting points to a change in the “Data Access Key” permissions used with the API.
Up until now you could use that single key, along with a station number, to access the data of any WeatherFlow station that has made the data public.

Now it appears the “Data Access Key” will only return data for the station it is associated with; all other stations return 404(not found) or sometimes 401(not authorized).

I knew forever this might become an issue at some point.

I have been asking Tempest support about it. They are nice but no real answers yet.

I will post if things progress.

Good news !!

I have the data access worked out and the ROKU application will work again.

ROKU performs updates on a schedule; the working version of Weather Data Viewer will be available for updates or installation on Monday, April 7 at 5pm PT

No station numbers are accepted yet.

I tested it after the release last night and found it to be working.

Things to try:

  • On the ROKU menu → Highlight the channel → press * → Check for updates
    or
  • Uninstall and reinstall the channel

It worked for me. All I had to do was check for updates, updated the app and it worked. I didn’t have to renter anything.

New Tempest user here.
App for Roku worked for a few days a couple of weeks ago, then would only open and crash.
Updated the app manually today (Apr 8 2025) to 5.8.1, and it worked for one or two uses. Then a few hours later, back to only open and crash.

Suggestions?

Good news, bad news. The app started working again on April 8 … but as of this morning April 10, it can’t find any stations . Sorta back to last week’s error.

After reading your post I tried the app . . . sure enough it didn’t work :frowning:

Once I removed the app and reinstalled it worked, of course you have to enter station(s) again.
Which currently makes zero sense to me: but I’ll be looking at it.

please try to uninstall and reinstall and tell me how you do.

Please try uninstalling and reinstalling. Honestly not sure what happened.

The fact that we are uninstalling and reinstalling the same code-set to make it work doesn’t escape me as being weird.
