Does anyone know where the weather forecast info is being pulled from? Mine is usually really far off from what other apps (AccuWeather, Weather Channel, etc.) are showing. I have seen the difference in highs/lows be between 7-12 degrees from other apps and actuals. I would think the accuracy would be a bit better for forecasting.
Does anyone know your installation location as to the vicinity it is placed in relation to objects, buildings and vegetation etc.?
Mine is mounted 10’ off my house on my deck, 8’ from the ground mounted with the Tempest wall mount bracket in full sun all day. Hope that helps. Works great here and have not had any issues and it is way more accurate than my old station that I had.
Huh? What does that have to do with the future forecast data that my Tempest is pulling from? It makes absolutely NO difference where my installation location is or the vicinity as to which it’s in relation to. The data being pulled for future forecasts has nothing to do with that. Maybe you are just trolling. Either way, thanks for nothing.
The temperatures my Tempest reads and provides in real-time are fine. My issue is with the future forecasts and where that data is being pulled from. The future forecasts are often off by several degrees - often times by 10 degrees or more.
From WeatherFlow’s own Your Better Forecast products:
I would have thought GRIB data would be the starting point but my understanding is GRIB is usually more heavily based on GFS and NAM model data. Sounds like Weatherflow is starting with Euro model data and then applying corrections based on your historic station observations.
If the siting of your Tempest is bad, then the forecast using the history from your station could also be off. Not that that is what is going on, but that is the basis for @ding.b asking the question.
Good to know. Thank you. My Tempest is attached to a 10’ pole on a fence post. All of my readings appear to be accurate, but the future forecasts most times are way off vs what AccuWeather (and others) is forecasting.
Whose to say AccuWeather and others are correct? I have found thatbthe Tempest is actually better that the commercial sites. The only true forcast thou is just look out your window!
The future forecast from AccuWeather are always within 1-5 degrees of the actual temperature that my Tempest registers for the day. The future forecasts of the Tempest vs the temperature my Tempest reads has been off by 12+ degrees often.
Interesting… I wonder if some regions are more accurate than others. My Tempest forecast has always been extremely accurate, to the point that I use it almost exclusively.
How long has your system been active? It took 30-40 days for mine to settle in. I’m in the mountains though and things can be pretty dynamic.
That could very well be the case. I was interested in seeing if anyone else’s was as inaccurate as mine.
I’ve had mine for about 3 years now, so I’m definitely outside of that “break-in” period.
