Bigger Battery Booster

do you have a link to your ali express seller?

Things got worst now… the listing does say it’s 23680 but they shipped me a 18650. It’s too late to file for a refund. Damm…

Thanks for the guide. Replaced with a 21680 2500mah LTO from Mr Li on Aliexpress.

Before and after charge profiles - old battery before the drop, new battery after.

that looks really promising!

Cool graph! How did you generate it?
I’m the next one on the list to perform the upgrade I think  Even with Florida sun, 2 years and a couple month and this second unit is going offline every night.

Hi,

I’m a little confused, the picture shows that the original battery is Li-ion, and according to the specifications it is an LTO battery (Lithium Titanate)?!

Can someone explain to me?

Tempest admin?

Well spotted. But the label also tells you that it is HTC series, which are LTO batteries according to their website Rechargeable LTO Battery Cell HTC7230 2.4V 40mAh Titanate Lithium Battery

but your link is another type of battery?
HTC7230>your link ,
printscreen>ZL 2010

sure, but it was the first hit on the web that tells you that the HTC series are LTO batteries. If you try hard enough you might find the correct battery. btw ZL 2010 is the patent number.

HTC can be also li-ion
where the truth is?

truth is they are LTO batteries. Why use LTO, mainly because they work well at pretty low temperatures. Also the can be recharged very often. Disadvantage is that they do not hold as much power, so you need a bigger one to get the same power.

ok, everyone is clear about the LTO theory.

But the fact is that it’s the opposite → it didn’t last two years in my device, and on the cover of the factory installed battery it says li-ion

So where is the truth?!

if it didn’t last two years, it would still be under warranty, and they will replace it for free. But if you want the route to replace it yourself, go for the LTO battery. if you go for anything else, well, that’s your choice. The manufacturer prints Li-ion on all their batteries but offers many different types. One of them is HTC series, which is LTO.

i found good alternative for battery
checked & working

that’s ridiculous expensive… https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256807280301200.html

Ali don’t want to ship battery in Croatia :-(…

Thanks for all the posts in this thread, great read. I have some questions if anyone can answer

I have a Tempest with a somewhat dud battery. It can’t maintain itself even in the Texas sun, unless it decides that it can some days. I have replaced it with a new one, leaving me with the old spare sitting here on my desk

Is there any risk to device function leaving a dying or even dead battery in place, if you have the power booster pack? My thinking is I can just leave the dead battery in there and have constant 12v power to the Tempest. Is this viable? I wasn’t sure if the Power Booster charges the battery only, which then powers the tempest, meaning a dead battery could result in a non functioning tempest

Lots of talk and links of the upgraded battery that needs the case cutting, but has anyone found a direct replacement for the 1300mah in the Tempest? Personally I am fine with the battery life of the Tempest with a functioning battery.

Last question, is there any problem with connecting wires to the battery terminals and running them out the Tempest into a box, so the battery can be changed as needed, while leaving the Tempest in place? This would be a similar solution to the power boost, but it would let the solar panels still re-charge the battery

The Power Booster Accessory (PBA) has two modes:

  1. When running off of internal AA batteries, it only uses them when the Tempest’s internal battery is low.

  2. When running off of external power such as a 12V battery or wall wart plugged into an electrical outlet, the Tempest uses that power to both charge itself plus operate.

I have a Tempest with a dead charge controller, and it has been powered for 13 months now by a 12V battery and 100W solar panel. Overkill for sure, but it is in a remote location 750 miles from home and I need it to be hands-off as much as I can make it…

Thank you, good information

we printed a case for the excess cable of the PBA
