Last night a long line of thunderstorms lit up our sky for many hours. Tempest recorded about 4000 lightning strikes & 3.35 inches of rain. The lightning strikes agreed with 3 other online stations quite closely. The rainfall amounts matched other Tempest stations in the area fairly close, as well as a nearby Davis Instruments Vantage Pro2 up on someone’s roof. When a 10 minute duration, heavy pelting of pea-sized hail began, Tempest changed from a ‘very heavy’ rain descriptor to ‘extreme’. That may have contributed to the slightly high rainfall amounts reported. I’m still trying to get a handle on what Tempest is doing when the clock strikes midnight & the rainfall accumulation numbers go a bit wonky.
