Have been chipping away at this project for a couple of months and am quite excited about the way it came together! The code is all MIT-licensed and available on github, so hopefully it’ll be useful to others as well.
One thing that would help a lot would be a precise hardware parts list (with Amazon links) so other folks can figure out the price and if it works for them. There are so many displays out there that all are slightly different…
It does get me thinking, however, that I’m kinda wasting the pi3 I’m using on my 10" monitor HomeAssistant display since all it does is run Chromium as a browser. Maybe I need to get that zerow out of the box’o’misfit’toys and use that one instead. Hmmmm…
Good point; most of the items are linked in the blog text but not in an organized or easy-to-see way. Other than the Pi itself, the only component that really matters is the display; I used this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B013JECYF2 … I was really impressed with this unit, honestly — it was super-easy to install and very bright with rich colors — and of course being connected by HDMI made it a breeze to render the dashboard on. Big fan! —S
FWIW - I use https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07FZZ95WN/ which is 10" 1280x800 for HomeAssistant but I did mess up and get the non-touchscreen version. Works great as a bigger alternative at double your price.
