Hmmmmmm - this gets me thinking that it would be pretty cool if you had a generic variant that would display similarly from any weewx-compatible station (of which there are over 100 models at least).
I’d gladly trade you some weewx skin files and/or extensions and beta testing time+labor to make it possible to have a product that would be that vendor-neutral
You are quite welcome! It is a great display and hopefully they will do it in metric as well! For the money I don’t think you can beat it. Much better to view than the Tempest app for the tablet which is a bit boring but does give you all the info needed.
I’ve received my display and love it! One issue I noticed is that the wind direction on the app is 180 degrees different than the Tempest Display! Anyone else have this issue? What can I do to resolve it?
Just checked mine and reading the same. I will keep my eye on it and let you know if it goes squirrelly but so far it reads dead on to the Tempest app.
As a degreed Meteorologist. . .for decades. . .I’ve always used “From-ies” for the wind direction instead of “To-ies”! i.e. wind is from SW at 8 mph gusting to 17 mph. As a meteorologist. . .I’m not concerned with the direction wind is blowing “to-y” or towards. When you try to fly a kite. . .you have launch it and face the direction the wind is coming from or else is will not become airborne. If you launch your kite by using the “To-ie” method. . .it won’t launch. Aircraft have to take off and land using the runway where the wind is coming from. i.e. South wind at the airport means come in from the North and land on Runway 18 (for 180°); land on the runway facing in the direction the wind is coming from.
On The Lightmap Tempest° Weather Display. . .they use “To-ies” for wind direction instead of “From-ies” Below is an excerpt from the User’s Manual. . .
In the lower left portion of the image above. . .the wind on your Tempest° device’s app (or ‘wfpiconsole’ if you have one) would show that the wind is from the SE. . .and in the bottom middle image. . .the wind on your Tempest° would show it is blowing from WNW.
In the image below. . .it shows a LightMap display. . .with wind blowing toward the NNE. . .but in Tempest° Reality. . .the wind is from SSW at 8 mph. When looking at my LightMap display. . .I have to retrain my “Meteorological Brain” that the wind is actually from 180 degrees opposite of what is being displayed on the LightMap board.
There is NO way to resolve this wind direction. Their engineering was created so it looks like a “windsock”. . .with the tail pointing to the direction in which the wind is blowing TO instead of blowing FROM (as displayed on your Tempest device).
